This is Round 4 of the Infernal Ascension Riot, a tournament featuring 8 decks from the 6th theme booster of the Digimon Card Game: Infernal Ascension. The last two decks to clash are Mastemon and Xiangpengmon. The Yellow / Purple Mastemon deck has received powerful new tools in the form of a new Mirei, Angewomon, LadyDevimon and Maste ACE. Coupled with lower end support in the form of new Salamon and Gatomon released in recent sets, the deck has increased in both consistency and control capabilities, ready to outlast any opponent. On the other hand, the Blue Xiangpengmon deck is an evolution of the EX3 Aquatic deck helmed by Aegisdramon with greater source swarming and the fearsome ability to reset the field (while immediately source swarming over). Will the army of angels or army of seabirds/fish emerge victorious in this war of attrition?

UPDATE: Unfortunately, looks like I wasn't able to make it in time. EX7 is releasing this Friday, and I've only made it to Round 4 of EX6. I think I'm going to cut the EX6 battles short and go straight into EX7 (probably will be doing this a lot for future sets as well). I still want to let the tournament reach its conclusion though, so I might just do the Semifinals and Final as quick battles on my end without caring about the back and forth / cinematic potential, then I can either (1) upload a minimally edited digest video of them, or (2) update yall on the outcomes in a dramatically written Community post or something. Let me know if yall have any thoughts!

Not a bad match. Loving the back and forth. I swear, it’s lovely to see Aqua finally being able to go all out. Plus, with bt18 revealing Lanamon and Calmaramon for the deck, it’s looking very promising. However, I have to say this; bt16 Salamon was putting in all of the work today. Seriously, that dog went beast mode in this match.

Makuake as Xiangpeng’s theme is INSPIRED. Battles with Digimon Music are always so hype. Can’t wait to see if 3 Musketeers gets a cool theme as well!

Well, in my heart the winner was Xiangpengmon. That one turn was so absurdly explosive, it was awesome. The deck just loses out by not having a dedicated tamer.

Maste is such a pure step on the gas deck once you get both Mirei out. The rush gatomon was a complete waste of time in my playing it so far, the Rush Devimon bt11 was just always better. It was also critical having some flood gates to help keep some things under control because of setup timing. Pillomon and Psychmon probably being the most important right now. There were some moments where I feel holding onto the EX6 mirei effect until *after* the mastemon evo would have been better. It's really nice to be able to re-play a search gatomon then evo it for free from trash when you have all the setup. Just makes sure you have all the tools ready.

Xiangpeng bounces your own Digimon as well! So if they sent Penguin out, it would have returned to hand when the 2nd Xiangpeng bounced Angewo to prevent Ace counterplays!

At 9:30 I don't think the Mastemon player had any blockers on the field so couldn't the other player just move out the rookie and just go for game instead of just digivolving on top of it?

Yeah xiangpengmon easily won since mastemon can only remove 1 of the attackers and no ladydevimon inherit gives the ace mastemon blocker

@@Skru-begg Nope! Xiangpeng only ever had 1 attacker in those situations (the Xiangpeng on field had SA -4), and even if they had 2, Maste ACE plays out a LadyDevi/Angewo which can delete/stop it!

@@Skru-begg As Rust said, Maste ACE would just cheat out an Angewomon or LadyDevimon, giving the extra defense needed to survive, either by neutering Xiangpeng's damage, OR by deleting Penguinmon outright.

I'm a little naive to Digimon board states, and definitely playing both decks at the same time isn't easy! So hopefully you can help me on what's going on on these turns: 9:30 the current digimon does have -4SA, but what is stopping the breeding Digimon being promoted and attacking for game? unless the 'summoning sickness' rules are different than I remember(?). my other thought is maybe there was another game where Mirie had Mastemon with the "all angels are also blockers", but that's not the case here(?) 11:34 is pretty much identical case; promote, no blockers, attack for game? Again, maybe there's rules I'm missing where the player was not allowed to attack, or hidden information with an ACE in hand? We're all Guilty of "I wanted to do the cool play and missed lethal for it", but I'm not sure of any "on going effects" ("Xiangpengmon would have bounced it" doesn't seem clear enough because its an on play/digivolve) that stopped the deck from winning ? Playing with new cards is also very difficult, these things happen, I'm a sucker for learning why I'm wrong though. Still an amazing video as always! wish more tcgs did this kind of content that you make

There isn't really a wrong/right here! In those 2 situations as the Xiangpeng player, I just didn't think it would be a good idea to swing into a potential Maste ACE as it would likely mean certain defeat the next turn, so I decided to build up to wipe the field instead as I was sure I could survive 1 more turn at least. But of course, if they attacked and Maste didn't have an ACE, they would have won. "Xiangpengmon would have bounced it" refers to the aggressive turn where Penguin was kept in raising. The Xiangpeng player's plan was to bounce Angewomon before attacking, so if they had promoted Penguin in that case, Penguin would have just been returned to hand without having the chance to attack. That was the thought process I applied for these plays!

1230. What happened to the Mastemon overflow memory? Wouldn't Xiangpeng retain turn with 5 memory and just swing for game?

Xiangpeng bounces all other Digimon of the specified Lv. or lower, including yours! So it wouldn't have had the chance to attack

Spoiler: . . . Xianpeng lost. Nothing has meaning anymore. In all seriousness, I was surprised by some of the build decisions in the xianpeng deck. Why no bt7 buka, no bt15 betamon, no ex6 biyo. You dont need the jamming from ex3 crab if you get it from inherits. Just kinda perplexed. Also, why kaiser nail? It does too little for too much memory. And bt11 penguin? Bt7 Goma does what he does, just better. Honestly a waste of 4 slots.

@pegolego 1. BT7 Buka is definitely nice, but to easily trigger Xiangpeng's inheritable the turn after it is played/evolved, I think going all in on EX6 Yoko makes the threat more consistent! 2. Since Xiangpeng wipes the field, I decided to go for BT7 Goma's draw source over BT15 Beta. A case can be made for EX6 Biyo for survivability... but I feel like the other Lv3s are too valuable. 3. EX3 Crab's main point is the adding of powerful inheritables to the stack to set up for OTK / advantage. But the Jamming becomes important in my build because I personally think the Lv3/4s that don't give Jamming inheritable (EX3 Ebidra, Promo Seadra etc.) are better for the deck than the ones that do, so my most powerful stacks don't usually have Jamming naturally. 4. Almost all the Japanese Xiangpeng recipes I found run BT11 Penguin. I didn't understand why at first, but then I realised it's not for the draw - it's the combo potential. Penguin's self-tuck has no Lv. restriction, which means you can slot in Xiangpeng and play it out with Kaiser Nail to force increase the Lv. of the bounce by one stage, throw in Promo Seadra to proc 1 additional attack for game etc. it can come in clutch in various situations! And it's a card that will only better as the quality of Aqua support increases in future sets. That's just my take on the build!

Why use blackgatomom instead of bt11 devimon who also has rush, blackgato isnt even a holy beast(dark animal) whereas Devimom is searchable since its a fallen angel

On the first turn, it would have been bounced when Xiangpeng cleared Maste's field (Xiangpeng returns your own Digimon as well). On the second, they were wary of being countered by a Mastemon ACE Blast Evolve!

Unfortunately, I couldn't keep most of my matches where Aegisdramon appeared cos if Xiangpeng sets up and sits on an Aegisdra with Xiangpeng beneath, Maste is almost shut down completely haha

So... not promoting penguin was just a misplay right? That was lethal with penguinmon there. Both on the 2nd and 3rd turns. I can't see a reason why on Turn 3 it wasn't "promote penguin; game" unless they had Maste Ace and a Ladydevi; which was unknown. And surely after losing board control you have to go for it. Edit: Oh wait xiang would have bounced Penguin

Yep on 2nd turn Xiang would bounce Penguin! On 3rd, I was wary of Maste ACE cos if they Blast DNA, they can immediately win next turn, so I set up in Breeding instead with the intent to wipe the board next turn. That was my thought process for this match!

🤔I dunno man, this feels really biased towards the Maste player. Yes, I get that the Xiangpeng player was weary of Blast Digivolve potential, but if they were one turn from losing anyway, then why not just go for it? Kinda suspicious 👀

Perhaps I made the wrong call in that scenario! While playing I didn't see Xiangpeng as 1 turn from losing as I was focused on being able to reset the board. But attacking then wouldn't have changed the outcome
