Looking good! I'd recommend a quarter round piece of moulding for the gap between old wall & closet. Moulding can hide many things without alot of extra work.

I had a hunch that the metal arm that you had in the top left hand side was going to make the drywall stick out a bit and should have suggested you to put it inside the closet. Don't worry about the gap at the top where it meets the ceiling as mud and tape will fill that in. My husband taught me to always have the full piece of drywall and cut out your openings after. The less seams you have the better and then you dont have to worry about the parts protruding as drywall has some flexibility. Dont forget do 1 coat of mud/tape, let dry. Second coat of mud, let dry. Then sand. 3rd thin coat of mud if needed for touch ups and a final sand. Im looking forward to seeing your reveal and enjoying watching it all come together.

The great thing about your closet is all the strong women that learn all of this .We as women are lucky to live in this time in life to learn everything we want no matter what . I still know women that say it’s a man’s job. No it’s not and you are proof of that.

Have done sheet rock for half my life in home projects and love home shows, this is the first I've ever heard of glue. I'm intrigued by this. The room I'm in right now was the first I ever did and that was 22 years ago, my seams aren't perfectly mudded but I love to look at the flaws knowing I did it and remembering the process and learning alongside my dad! I hope you enjoy any flaws and look at them as your signature on the art the way I do my walls!
@mygreatchallenge
@mygreatchallenge 2 жыл бұрын
I don t know about enjoying the flaws lol I think I ll obsess over it. I watched a guy on youtube who recommended using g the glue for areas that are floating like mine. (Not an actual wall) he said it helps stabilize further and avoid cracks in the long run.
@MarisaAndChew

@@mygreatchallenge interesting! I have zero cracks however I was finishing the basement, which has a cement floor and I assume it doesn't move, where upstairs I imagine things would shift slightly more! I think you've built a really strong closet and it looks great and will be super functional for you! I like my flaws as they're in the mudding and weren't noticable until after it was painted and then only when the light hits certain ways! Sometimes I consider fixing it, but that's a lot of sanding in a finished space, I think for me it has motivated me to do better on other projects I've done but it's always sorta nice to see how far I've come and all these years later I don't think I would have such vivid memories or learned lessons if I didn't get the reminder!

I'd be tempted to hire a dry wall guy to tape and finish the drywall because a professional will be able to blend the leaning existing wall and the closet front.

The house I purchased 3 years ago has had extensions added. Whoever did the plastering didn’t do a good job! I can see where the hallway and toilet walls have been taped and mudded over (the only part that gets muddled and skimmed in Oz). Other rooms have normal wallpaper that has been painted over so who knows what is underneath! It wasn’t Anaglypta paper they used, unfortunately. Before I decide how to decorate, the walls will need to be refinished properly which will create more work!! Congrats, Sophia, on doing such a great job. Your perseverance is inspiring. By the way, could the closet floor be painted black? Then it would “disappear” once your clothes, etc, are inside and wouldn’t affect the roll-out storage unit you built? Just a thought. Until next time, take care and stay safe and well. With love and best wishes from Down Under 😘💕🇦🇺

I don’t think carpet in the closet would work when you try to move the cabinet on wheels because it fits so tightly in the hole. It seems to me it will have to be very flat to wheel out on. Good job.

Sophia, you really inspire me so much so that I’ve attempted to do some demo on a house I recently purchased. Never have done any demo work before, I rented a demo hammer from Home Depot and took up all the tile in my kitchen and living room. Your encouraging words to just try and if you make a mistake , it’s a just mistake, gave me the courage to just go for it

We just added a small barn door to separate the bedrooms from the rest of the main house and my husband made sure the rail was "level" and it turned out to wrong! Lol! I keep telling him that in an old house NOTHING is level and if it is then you hit the jackpot! Ha! I'm sure you understand the struggle! Your closet looks spectacular Sophia! Can't wait for the final reveal! Yay! 😅💐

Honesty, I don’t think I would call it a mistake, but rather an adjustment to the circumstances. I would venture to say that a professional drywaller may have just put extra mud, but your way is better.

Are you finishing the inside of the closet as well? I like the idea of leaving it open and using the horizontal boards you put in as shelves for things, just paint it white so it reflects the light in there and it will look like built in shelves for perfumes etc... 💗

You're making super progress. I'm so impressed by all that you've accomplished! You should be proud of yourself. Most people wouldnt even attempt the project. I still would plane the wall by the thermostat. I know it's level, but in this case, I'd go with it being flush vs level. What is the advantage if it being level? Just my opinion...that you didnt ask for! Either way, your closet is going to be amazing!

Are you referring to anaglypta wallpaper? You are doing a good job, OK, a few mistakes. I bet that closet isn't going any where!! It is sturdy ! I feel for ya trying to remove your "mistake". We never happened to use adhesive before screwing in. My hubby and I decided that you can always tell where we started a project and where we finished! It looks better at the end!! LOL !! You probably do not need to finish the edges for the door. The door frame and molding should cover it.

Sophia, do you really need a door? It’s going to narrow that doorway right at your shoulder level. Would a curtain on a pole at the top work? You could wait till the painting and carpeting is finished and then decide on a soft pattern for the door.
