5 definitely. 4 is criminally underrated (I mean god damn did they do Cortana well, and the soundtrack is one of the best in the series), but I think Infinite still just barely edges it out.

Dude when Chief says “I will not fail you” he says it with such power, it was the same when Spartan Griffin tells him “You have to stop them” and Chief goes “Consider it done.” Like there is a 100% quality-assurance in that voice, Master Chief is GOING to get that done.

“We need to run.” “No. We need to fight.” One of my personal favorites. Perfectly encapsulates what makes Chief Chief. Any rational human sees an impossible fight and falls back to reinforce. Chief just wins. I wish it was in the final game, I loved the Halo 2 callback but the trailer line goes hard as hell.

Chief is pretty bad ass but I’ll always love how the thing that makes him so great is that he’s just lucky. And he’s brave as fuck, he’s willing to do shit that others wouldn’t even dare try even other Spartans and that’s what sets him apart. Its such a cool character trait for him because it fully acknowledges that he shouldn’t be able to do all this but he’s just lucky lol

I really dont think people give infinite enough credit for how well it portrays chiefs more human side, hes not so robotic and soldier like in that. His little and big interactions are filled with care and a personal connection to them, the interaction with the pilot is the best example but another is at the very start going through the zero G, he shoves banished away without a thought but when he sees a marine he pauses and gently shifts them to the side, its a minor interaction but it does show chief *does* truly care about the soldiers he fights or rather fought with.
