Master Forrest Enjoys A Banana

If there is a way for a flying-fox to get into strife, they will find it.
We rescued Master Forrest this morning after homeowner Colin found him hanging in one of his small grevilleas.
Grevilleas are a favourite food source for flying-foxes and I think that Forrest flew into the small backyard, landed in the shrubbery but had insufficient room to take off again.
Master Forrest is a very big bat and big bats need height and a fair bit of open ground to launch.
Following a merry chase around the grevillea I finally nabbed Forrest as he tried to climb the paling fence.
Now enjoying a short spell in care, Master Forrest will be released back to the wild in a week or so once I am sure he hasn't sustained a concussion or any injuries that are not as yet apparent.

You probably missed it @ 1:01 where he reacts by attempting a thumb swipe at Batzilla , when she moves the banana towards him and he sees it as aggression .The towel prevents the swipe happening. He is wary and does not trust humans. Also his ears are flattened - another sign he is not happy. But these bats a very intelligent and soon develop a degree of trust in the carer when it becomes evident she is not a threat.

Somewhere in Australia there's a tree full of these guys and a few of them are telling the others about this place where they can get cradled in a big soft leaf and get fed a bottomless supply of bananas all day long. You don't even need to be injured. You just show up.

It's a weird thing that nobody teaches kids. There are only 3 confirmed vampire bat species, and most of them live in Central and South America. Plus they're not even that violent when feeding. It's a tiny cut and a little time given to lapping up a couple of tablespoons of blood with their specialized tongue. They don't even need to feed every night! The countless other species of bat survive on a diet of mostly fruit and bugs.

I have a new found love for these little creatures and am learning and enjoying while watching. Just the voice of this rescuer is so calming and caring that you can't help but watch one after another. The world can learn that these little creatures are essential to the worlds ecosystem. Flying Fox really tones down the stigma. Nothing more amazing than wings to fly with. Two legs are nice but still to have wings would be a joy.

Beautiful lil guys. My mom saved a bat when I was 6. In Eastern WA. We had lil bats in Western Wa. Still see them now in the summer. Our house the Builder made a nice Bat house and Bee house❤️

He’s so angry , which makes him even more adorable ! One time when he’s offered banana , he’s annoyed, because it’s like he’s thinking ‘ Why are you giving me banana when you know I’ve already got some in my mouth ? Are you trying to kill me off by choking me with bananas ? ‘ Another time when the carer goes to give him banana he pulls away , because he doesn’t trust her totally . It’s such a natural reaction . But he loves the bananas she’s giving him , and it doesn’t mean he has to like her . It’s wonderful that he’s looking all around him and trying to suss out his surroundings . He’s a grumpy man but he’s very intelligent and very cute ! 🤪🙂💜👻💥💜

Those cheeks! He is too adorable! I'm new to flying foxes, what beautiful animals! I've been watching these video's nonstop, so special to see as well as informative! I really enjoy watching these little guys listening to that soothing voice as well. Such care & good energy. I realize many are exhausted from their ordeals, but it truly seems they feel safe. Beautiful program, heartwarming to see. What a wonderful group you are working so hard. Thank you!!🥰❤

I wish we had these beauties here in Florida! I would also do a rescue program for them. I can only enjoy the brown bats in my bat house.

Their mouths are similar to chipmunks...they can expand their cheeks to accommodate large amounts of food. They have no problem with stuffing their mouths with banana.. There is no chance that they will choke..🙂
