Күн бұрынPortuguese lesson: Learn how to use 3 question words in Portuguese: O que, Que, Qual. They all mean 'what' but they are not usually interchangeable. My tips will help you use these question words correctly in Brazilian Portuguese.

Thank you. That was very enlightening. These distinctions are so easy to forget for a student. A book that may interest you and I personally found fascinating is " Brazil :A Biography" by Lilia M. Schwarcz and Heloisa M. Starling. This is a superb one volume overview of Brazilian history that spans five hundred years, from European colonization to the 2016 Summer Olympics. In my view it gives an insight into your fascinating and complex country.

Then like the other channels that teach Brazilian speak in Brazilian... Does not keep my interest... The other channels, don't make sense to me. I know You have what it takes... Go for it...

One has to teach at the beginners level... Not the Teachers Level... Yes, some teachers have no clue... I would learn faster from You, Luciana. Then anyone else...

Oi :) So happy you decided to practice here. That is a great way to learn. Your question words are perfect ✅ One small adjustment is regarding the verbs Ser and Estar. You second question should be: Que dia é hoje? And the answer: Hoje é sexta-feira. I understand that it is a little confusing when we think about Ser for permanent qualities and states, since today only lasts 24 hours. But today is always today. Hoje é sexta, and it will not become another day during its short life. I hope that helps!

Thank you so much for the book recommendations! I know about Dyer's work but have not read any of his books. Now I know where to start! I read The Discovery of Being in my late 20s and I absolutely loved it. It made me read other books by Rollo May. And now I just know I want to read Discovery of Being again! I am sure it will be a different experience now that I'm in my, errr, not 20s 😀

Olá! I honestly don't know a reason for that. We just do it. Some books explain that it adds emphasis. I personally disagree. I don't think that is always the case and I don't think it is needed for emphasis. Basically the 'é que' is a habit that does not change the meaning of the question.

Yes, with one more thing to consider: Qual has a plural form - quais. So, it agrees in number with the word that it refers to. In this case: Quais cidades você visitou? 🙂

Obrigada por assistir às lições e pelo comentário. Please try to watch at reduced speed. It might help 😊 Then, once you get the phrase, you can watch at regular speed and repeat the phrases with me. I always encourage learners to practice speaking out loud 💪🏼
