Free chapter sponsored by Beretta from Zachary Kienbaums Sporting Clays Foundation + Advanced instructional course.
Three-time national sporting clays champion Zachary Kienbaum shares valuable insights into shooting towers in sporting clays. Towers can be one of the most intimidating targets that people see, but they can be thrown just like any other trap from any angle distance. In this video, Zachary breaks down the techniques involved in shooting crossing towers, outgoing towers, and driven towers. He emphasizes the importance of reading the line and seeing the bird well, defining the break point, and picking a hold point. He also provides tips on implementing maintaining lead and collapse to maintained lead on different types of presentations. With Zachary's expert guidance, you will learn to shoot tower targets with consistency and confidence.

I've already put this method to good use on sunday with the overhead from behind towers. i held at the breakpoint and lifted my head to see the bird coming in and when i lowered my head to the stock the shot was right there! thank you

Hey Zach, great video ! I saw you on a few occasion at the 2023 open and wanted to ask ya a few questions but you seemed busy and i didn't want to interrupt. Question is, I started shooting last year and shoot a DT11 sporter and wanted to ask you what brand chokes you think shoot best out of the DT11 and as new to the sport 70% shooter, what would your recommendations be for chokes, IC / IC....LM /LM ect thanks a bunch and thanks for this video.

Pros typically use whatever manufacturer that sponsors them. The ones that come with your Beretta are probably as good as any other brand. As far as size… I don’t know what Zach uses but Anthony Matarese uses modified chokes. (Occasionally skeet for close targets). Most courses the targets are not as far as what the pros shoot. We use light modified for nearly everything, (skeet for the close ones). If you’re just starting IC will hit most everything until you get to the “big” tournaments.

@@joeblo5516 Good advice. Light modified takes a little learning but it will usually take care of 95% of the targets you see on most common sporting clay ranges.

Looks a lot like Anthony's videos. Copy is the flattery I guess.

This video is not as good as the video on Rabbit targets. The video quality is high but the material is not equal. I understand Zac is a National Champion, and therefore very knowledgeable, but I think he makes tower target shots sound less complicated than they really are for me. I attend NSCA events in middle Georgia USA. There are clubs that have started to use tower shots - crossing, outgoing and driven. I find the leads for me are much greater than what Zac seems to indicate - I have seen 6 to 15 ft of lead. An example is a tower setup where the tower may be 90 ft high but is set 45 yards back from the station. The math means that it is a 50+ yard shot. It is also between tall trees so I get no more than a 2 0r 3 second window to shoot at it. I think this video would have been better if Zac actually got on a shooting station with each target type and showed foot positions, describing the target line and what to look for, body positions and form for shooting. I have seen other videos by Ben Husthwaite and Ed Solomons out of England. Those videos spend time on body position/form that I found very enlightening. Zac described tips for shooting tower shots which are still good to know but I was hoping for seeing more details.

I'm probably gonna get waylaid for these comments but they are what works for me. It was just a few short years ago that I began to study Todd Bender and Anthony Matarese's shooting styles and came away with one huge piece of information, at least for me - it was the necessity of keeping your eye hard focused on a specific area of the clay target. Here it is in a nutshell, and assuming one has correct foot/body position and near perfect gun fit and gun mount, is hwat I learned. In the half to one second opportunity one has to hard focus on the target as it enters the kill zone, the sub-conscious mind has the ability to calculate trajectory, speed and lead. Yes, I said lead and it does that in milliseconds. When I am intensely focused on some point on a clay target for one half to one second, my sub-conscious mind orders my body to pull the trigger. Most of the time, I can't really tell you what lead I put on a clay target that caused it to break. The reason is, I think, is that I'm not thinking about lead at any time, not when tracking the target or when entering the kill zone to make the shot. I liken it to shooting high and low station 8 on a skeet field. Very few people I've shot with can tell me how much they led the bird. What they tell me is the just stay on the target line, swing through and the gun goes off. There is not enough time on high and low station 8 to think about lead even if you wanted to.

@@mikebutler7605 No need to worry from me about your comments. I find the technique that you call "eyes tell the hands the lead" method (Churchill or instinctive technique) doesn't work for me. I do know other people that use the technique with some success. I learned to shoot with the gun in my peripheral vision so I can see the "gap" as part of my sight picture. My instructor calls it "muzzle awareness". Some call it "Barrel awareness". I still look at the target with the barrel in the sight picture to a small degree. We are all different where we all see things differently. I have no problem with your comments. If the technique that you describe works for you than use it to create your best scoring performance. I wish you success in your shooting.

@@jimsutton8244if you want to be successful you will need to have several different techniques in your Arsenal. Some clays requires different techniques to break. If you can only shoot one way, you are at a massive disadvantage
