The Cooler Master Q500L is a great looking compact case that can fit an ATX motherboard and is highly modular. Its actually one of the smallest ATX cases around but there's low airflow challenges everywhere. That means if you aren't careful internal temperatures could get out of control.

@systander

I bought this case for my cousin and I kinda like it. He had an matx pre-built and this is smaller than that case although it fits atx. The front mounted psu was an interesting concept as well. Gonna have to go back and bring him another fan and replace his stock heat sink but overall I'm happy with how light and small it is, and it's a simple design so it looks nice sitting in the corner of the desk. I think 40 or 50 usd would be a more appropriate price point though.

I really liked the concept of this case. It could have been so good....but the Cooler Master did what they usually do - have a great idea and implement it poorly. Anyway, if you want a compact ATX case (and can't afford the Cerberus), do yourself a favor and get the Raijintek Thetis. It's even smaller (only 27L in volume), better built, prettier and has better cooling. Or a Silverstone Grandia if you prefer the horizontal type of case for something like a TV rack...

Also Deepcool Gamerstorm Baronkase Liquid is good(tho more expensive) alternative, but it comes with 120mm AIO included and RGB, so if you wanted AIO in the first place it's not a bad buy, exaust fan is terrible, just buy 3 pack rgb fans, 2 at bootom, 1 as exaust and keep the AIO as exaust up top

I have the Q300l for a year now with 4×140mm + 120mm fans inside and the temperatures are amazing! 27-30°C on idle and on full load 65°C is the worst case scenario! The only bummer is the noise levels because of the case being practically open since it has holes everywhere, but for a 35€ case ist's pretty decent considering the compact size!
@syncmonism
@syncmonism 5 жыл бұрын
I have the Q300L, and I actually quite like it considering the cost, though I got it for a secondary computer which doesn't create much heat in the first place. The modularity of the design is quite nice. I don't know how much worse the cooling is in the Q500L, but some fairly simple modifications would probably get it to work decently, as Dmitry suggested. It could still be a good value for someone who has a full ATX motherboard, though I'd recommend not bothering with a full ATX board anyway. You'd be much better off going with an mATX board, which will fit fine in the better design of the original Q300L.

I do really like the design. I wish there was a tempered glass version where all the exterior plastic parts are replaced with anodized aluminium in the €150-€180 range. Then I'd just put some larger feet underneath and make some cutouts to get some better airflow for the fans.

It's very interesting to see how they've redesigned this. I have the Q300L and I'm pretty happy with it. Temps are much better but only mATX motherboard. One downside for me is even with the extra space you can still only have one 3.5" HDD even though it seems like it should fit two. Lighting also doesn't look great because of the dust filter but mine is a minimalist black grey build.

I just built my new computer with the older q300l case. I drilled more holes and used better fans, and the cooling was a lot better. They should originally have made more perforations and it would be a lot better of a case. I used mine just because it fit on my desk better than any other case. Other wise I would never have spent time drilling all those holes! 😂

Can the PSU also be mounted at the normal spot (with some fiddling)? I´m thinking that if you´d use a smaller board, a liquid CPU cooler with a 240mm radiator at the top (out) and two 140mm fans at the front (in) you would get better thermals.

Based on hole spacing on the top/front/etc, it looks more like it depend on passive cooling as its so restrictive for airflow. The small case seems super interesting , but the dust filter and ventilation needs to be improved.

@roger_985
@roger_985 5 жыл бұрын
I think if this case had taller feet and a better dust filter on the bottom it would allow for bottom intake and top exhaust. Two intake fans on the bottom and two exhaust fans on top. Maybe even rotating the cpu cooler 90 degrees to vent towards the top of the case might get better results. I like the compact size and overall look of the case. I think it has a lot of potential with a few small changes.

Well I've just transplanted my ryzen 7 and 5700xt system into the q500l from a Fractal Design r2 (one of the best older model cases around) I was filled with dread at the expected result but after purchasing a new entertainment unit for the lounge it was pretty much a necessity to fit in there. Case is placed horizontal, I've dropped a 120mm intake to the left of the GPU, a 140mm I take to the right of the cpu and kept the stock exhaust fan. Ryzen 1700 with a silentiumpc fortis 3 cooler - max temp under prime with avx - 52c Powerxolor Red Dragon 5700xt running oc bios - 62c maximum under furmark Running both simultaneously pushes another 2c or so on each. I'm not seeing a single issue cooling wise with this case if intake fans are added, it's on a par with my old R2 on temps. Its noisier and build quality isn't amazing , they're about the only negatives in opinion. Also drive wise I've managed 2 fit 2 x 4tb hdd, a 3tb hard drive, and a 1tb ssd (aswell as my nvme drive) All those hole perforations that the entire case is made of means you can adapt it to fit way more drives than it was designed to do originally.

We have similar hopes/expectations form the CPU case manufacturers. What do you think about the fact that CPU cases don't have any way to accommodate IO from all Motherboard headers. Instead they usually have a few old ports. This is so outrageous to me. I wish there was a standard op panel on all cases (visible or hidden) and that its "front IO plate" would come with the motherboard, as well as all the header extension cables to mount into the IO panel. Still waiting for these huge problems to be addressed. Nice video btw. Have a nice day :)

My mini ITX case is roughly the same size. On the plus side it doesn't cook the case internals, takes more drives of any format than you have SATA ports on an mITX board AND has an additional hot swap bay, and it has absolutely no GPU clearance issues (takes a 14" card effortlessly). That being said I feel like the volume of the Q500L is criminally underutilized and still comes with a lot of compromises. It's still too large and has nothing to show for it.

I have a q300l and picked it because of its weight. And yes I realize that's a bad qualifier but I had a specific place I wanted to put it. the best setup I could do is two 140mm static pressure fans in front and two 120mm exhaust fans (throw away the stock one) on back and top back. I didn't bother putting an exhaust on the bottom because my power supply is stupid big and the short legs. The gpu doesn't seem to get unreasonably hot like the cpu though The top one is a result of a weird hotspot on the top of the case so I'm hoping the exhaust helps the heat escape quicker so it doesn't become a problem Everything considered I still ended up undervolting my CPU so it doesn't go above 80 and make all my fans ramp up extremely quickly.

This is also my first ryzen so I'm not completely dismissing the possibility the motherboard drivers are causing this somehow but I only got real results after disabling the boost clock (something something overdrive) and going into ryzen master and undervolting. The processor is a 3600 and is more than what I need but definitely a bummer that it won't see it's full potential without becoming unbearably noisy

Wooooooww.....that's really weird. The PSU has to be mounted to the inside of the front of the case? Why? The MasterBox Q300L MicroATX case has the PSU able to be mounted on the bottom of the case, which is normal at least from what I have seen. So you can install 2 intake fans in the Q300L case but not the Q500L case. Very strange if I'm getting that right.

Because he put a ATX board in there, no space at the bottom. If you use mitx you can put it at the bottom.

I got the Q300L because I liked the size and price (€40 microATX), however my 980ti is getting choked so during intense gaming I remove the side panel and my gpu temp drops 10C.. This case is not made for higher power usage hardware!
