I served in this unit from 1989 to 1991 and it was one of my greatest honors to do so.

I served with Senior Chief Kinsey during his second tour at the Guard. Before his arrival back for his second tour, there was already chatter that a legend was returning. He had unimaginable leadership skills, and the ability to not only gain, but earn the trust of the young Sailors at the guard. He was always doing something for the Navy and the community. He was driven not by power or glory, but by a principal of character, and a sense of duty. I don't know what he would have said if he knew I went to become a Senior Chief myself, and a commissioned officer, but I suspect he would know he played a role in that. He did indeed.

I was in Firing Party and Drill Team (1992-1994). Thank you so much for this, Master Chief.

I start training with the Ceremonial Guard tomorrow, watching this gave me so much motivation and pride for what Im doing. Hooyah Honor Guard.

As I am a widower, (and a U.S. Navy vet,) I attend a grief support group. A widow whom I met there lost a son as well. This son was in the USCG Honor Guard. He told his mother, now a friend, all bout membership in the USCG Honor Guard. It was a long, busy and intense time that he served in this honors unit. I write about these things because it seems that mention of this unit certainly deserved mention in this otherwise Excellent presentation. I think this is one of your best. 'Nuff said.

Master Chief, This video brings back many memories of my time at the Honor Guard. I served there from 2004-2006 (colors platoon). I returned after A-school at the end of 2006-2007 to wait for clearance to my next duty station. I met my wife while at was stationed at the Honor Guard.

My son is currently serving in the guard now. He is on the drill team. Thank you for this video.

Being a Ceremonial Guard (Full Honors Firing Party) was one of my finest and fondest moments in life... 1993 - 1995.

USAF vet here. I served on the Dover AFB Honor Guard when your fallen sea mates arrived from the Stark ('87) and Iowa ('88). We assisted the USN Ceremonial Guard in both ceremonies.

I enjoyed all the info you departed. I served in the U.S.Navy starting in May 1964. I learn much from this. Again thank you. It is interesting how often that a U.S.Presidents have been in the Navy.

Master Chief, this is impressive! And right up my alley. I am a Navy vet, interested in history, and retired from mortuary service. Thank you for showing that there are more to funerals for vets than Arlington. We have a hard time now and then trying to tell client suvivors that there are SEVERAL national cemeteries. Just as there are more national parks than Yellowstone or Yosemite. In addition there are also State veteran cemeteries, and even my little county in NE California has two cemeteres with Veterans' sections. Free graves for those who served, and their spouse. It is worthwhile for people to call their local mortuary and ask about veteran's benefits in their area. Again, good video. Thank you.

Master Chief, fantastic video you put together, I served at the guard in 97-99, many great memories, I was a member of the Colors Team (2nd Division). I remember the epic Flag Room matches, all the fantastic memories. I had the honor of serving with ET1 (Then ET2) Brian Moss, I can still remember exactly where his office was! I believe he took over for Petty Officer Barnes as well.

I was also in Grand Rapids MI for Ford’s funeral. I waited in line for hours in the middle of the nite to view his casket and of course-flanking the four corners-if memory serves me right-were the Naval Honor Guard….rigid strait with full military bearing……uniforms crisp and perfect….standing at attention…..so impressive

Master Chief--Thanks so much for posting this video. You have included so much wonderful Navy and historical information here and it brings back so many memories. I'm a retired USAF bandsman with 27 years in both the field and the fleet. I've had the privilege of performing for more heads of state, high-ranking individuals, and VIPs at both ceremonies and funerals than I can remember. Sen Kennedy, George H.W. Bush, Pres Mitterand. King Bumibol Aduljadej, Gen Peter Pace, Prime Minister Koyazumi, etc., etc., just to name a few. Like all bondsman in the field and the fleet, we played a lot of public concerts which of course were a lot of fun. But some of most memorable moments were the serious ones. I was on tour with the USAF Band of Liberty (Hanscon AFB, MA) in Upstate NY when the Cole was hit. With about 1 hour's prep time I wrote an arrangement of Eternal Father, Strong To Save for our band. We ran it down once and opened the show with it for the rest of the tour, asking the audience to stand and observe a moment of silence in honor of our brave sailors who died. Sometimes God presents an opportunity to you like this and I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time. Another moment was during my tour as the U.S. Army piano player with the CinCSouth Band in '84-'87. I had the privilege to attend the funeral of a Royal Air Force officer at the Anglican Church in downtown Naples with some of my shipmates from that band and large number of Allied Forces. I can surely attest to the impeccable military bearing of this unit…..during my father’s funeral at Arlington-mind you he was a simple WWll veteran-the amount of care and attention to detail was impressive…..I remember distinctly thinking that when the sailors (whose uniform was painfully crisp and neat) folded the flag they really honorably folded that flag-I mean really folded it and presented it to my brother on one knee with the words “a grateful nation “…..no second measures were taken for my dad and the bugle player played a real bugle-I’ve been to one vets funeral where the bugle was a fake electronic device….I didn’t think that was honorably done…..but I’d like to think my dad looked down from the great beyond and smiled at the effort of this unit…..

I enjoyed my tour with the Ceremonial Guard. That time went fast, I blinked, and then I was attending "A" School. I blinked again, and almost twenty years have passed since then.

I understand that the Navy supplied boarding cutlasses during the so called “Tanker War” during the Iran Iraq war. The powers to be didn’t think it would be such a good idea using firearms when boarding and inspecting oil tankers in Persian Gulf. Lt.Col. (Ret). Mel Shichtman

Master Chief, you missed the funeral of Robert Stethem who was killed in the hijacking of TWA flight 847 in 1985. I was aboard Nimitz at that time as we were shadowing the flight from Beruit to Algiers and back.

This one got me thinking about the surge of Navy Presidents. Certainly Roosevelt can be considered a Navy president and a great president, even though he never served in the Navy. He was assistant Secretary of the Navy in WW I. He was a very Navy oriented president when we really needed one. The actual Navy veterans all had rough voyages. Only Carter and HW Bush actually had normal terms, but they lost their elections for the second term. If people don’t know about the terms of JFK, LBJ, Nixon and Ford, they should look them up. That’s the list of Navy presidents.

The uniforms are sharp but the hats are all over the place.

What's the reason for that cravat worn by the ceremonial guard, and when was it introduced? It's not the most attractive piece of neckwear.

As I watch these outstanding videos and share them with my 20k on twitter all I can think over & over again is “please God send a miracle and save our country.” We have an imposter in the White House and thus the six branches of service are being presided over by someone who belongs not in that place of high honor, but in fact, belongs in jail.

As a British soldier I do have one question why are the colours carried by enlisted men when the navy as ensigns as a rank this privilege is reserved to British officers of that rank still even though some units call them 2nd Lt
