This western saddle repair is NOT for the faint of heart. lol To do this project all by hand requires patience, time and a little know how of the saddle and how it is put together. Hopefully by the end of this video you will have the knowledge to do the repair yourself.
If you do this all by hand as I did, I suggest purchasing a few packages of #0 or #1 harness needles as you will break a few.
Tools you will need for this project are; (Most can be purchased on The Leather Lady, LLC website).
Knife of some sort - blades very sharp and if a utility knife change blades out to keep sharp
Awl
Needle Nose Plyers
Jewelers plyers
Sandpaper - medium or finer grade
Leather for seat covering
Foam - this saddle used 3/4" foam (if you can use high density foam .. is best)
Harness Needles- (if by hand) size #0 or #1million
Thread- I used nylon coated - White for Cantle and Black for sides
Barge Glue

You can but you would want to get it 3/4"-1" and as dense as you can get. They didn't have memory foam back in the day so that is what they used.. heavier the better. Now a days Memory foam is used a lot more as it is softer on your tush and bounces back quickly and better. I hope that helped. I ordered like a piece from online of 'high density' foam. Like a memory foam... but a heavy foam will work too. If you go to a sewing store get the HEAVIEST they have. Back in the day they didn't have memory foam.. padded seats came into play in the 1880 so things like wool, horse mane & tail were used. I hope this helped :) Thank you for watching as well :) Patti

@@tonynet2709 Hi Tony, The swell was a BUGGER to do.. but I can do a short video to explain. You have to make sure you have enough leather to GO OVER it and about an inch on the bottom side, as you will cut wedges out so you can get it to lay flat and GLUE IT DOWN.. I will try to get a video at least of a sample for you.. :) Patti
