All I can say is WOW!!! Your plants are gorgeous!! I'm glad to hear you talk about the realities of plant care and matching the plant's care with your willingness to do certain things and what you dislike (floor cleanup). That makes caring for plants much more realistic...and in reality...more fun. It feels less obligatory. Loving the long form video BTW. Thanks for sharing your collection.

Thank you so much for all those kind words! I really appreciate it. Actually, I'm probably going to steal some of them for my bio because I've had trouble putting my approach to plant care in the right words. 🤣 Thanks again! 💚💚💚

I'm torn between hoping my Alocasias will grow as big as yours and worrying about where I'll put them if they do! 😍😂 I'm in the process of transferring all of mine to self-watering pots, some in pon and some in soil, and they do seem to love it!

I’m so happy I was recommended your channel. I just can’t relate to lots of these plant channels. They feel a little snobby and too curated. Their process it complicated. Just not me. I’m a novice. Your personality is wonderful. I love the simplicity of your suggestions and your esthetic is lovely.

I also grow my alocasias in self watering pots with very chunky mix of leca, perlite, vermiculite, seramis, pumice, orchid bark and peat moss. They do well like this.

I do use beneficial bugs specifically for spider mites monthly as a preventative in the summer since I live in FL and so far I never had a spider mite problem an I have 18 different Alocasias. For me, it works. The other parts of seasons I just wipe down my leaves when I water all of my plants. Love your information on Alocasias.

This video is older, but I use beneficial mites and I am very happy with them. I used them as a preventive and I have a big collection of Calatheas, Alocasias and Anthuriums, now ongoing three years. I never ever had a spider mite problem. I had the occasional thrip, but they never did more than a few silver lines on the leaves and then they were gone again. So yeah, I buy the satchels every 8 weeks and I am super happy with them

Really happy to run across this video. I picked up a variegated “Lucifer” from Home Depot last week. There were 3 plants in it, HUGE pot. Two are variegated, one of those has reverted but the smallest is all variegated. I’m not a huge Alocasia person and just have a silver dragon that I’ve been battling with. I put the two variegated plants in semi hydro so I’m glad to see you approve. But not before harvesting the 10 corms in the pot:)

This was immensely helpful information! And I have actually already had great success with Alocasia and it's one of the genus I have the most of. I also have found they LOVE pon and they responded very well to fertilizer water in addition to the slow release already in the pon. I am jealous of your relative humidity! In Minnesota, my house is actually around 45% in the summer, but much lower in the winter. I love Jewel Alocasia for being able to be hardy during those dry winters! Thanks!

Love that tip about the feather duster! I've had lots of run-ins with bugs and tried all the sprays, but what I've decided is that the most important thing is mechanical removal. I like to spray my plants with the shower hose, to get all the buggies off. I have found that is way more effective than any pesticide...and WAY less work! But I love the feather duster because that means I wouldn't have to even move my plants! ha ha...getting one today

Thank you for your advice, very helpful. I am just starting to understand how my plants have different needs in terms of watering and the amount of light they prefer. My big Zebrina Sarian got through winter without a problem but now in summer I was watering too much, it was getting too wet and not enough light. And the leaves loosing there deep green color like covered in a mist of white spray paint??? My Zebrina same soil, light and watering on the other hand is very healthy. Sean (Only Plants), he said they like strong light and some direct light so I put the Zebrina Sarian outside and halved the watering and it has responded very quickly. Now thriving. All the best for you and your plants. I am a bit jealous of all those leaves, haha

Thank you for confirming my suspicion that my Alocasia Tiny Dancer losing a leaf after growing another one was not normal! I didn’t think it was either! All I could think was “how will my plant ever get any bigger or make any progress if that’s the case?”. Turns out she is root bound and has roots coming out the bottom of the pot! I’m hoping this is the reason why she’s unhappy because otherwise I’m stumped. She has 12 hours of bright indirect light and high humidity with constant air flow. This video cleared up so much!
