In this video, we'll go over some great phrases that will help you participate in a Finnish conversation. We will learn key phrases to help you express your thoughts, opinions, and beliefs! We will also learn how to agree or disagree with statements in Finnish.
📝 Summary:
Minun mielestäni / Mun mielestä = In my opinion
Luulen, että... / Mä luulen, et... = I think that (use only with uncertain events)
Uskon, että... / Mä uskon, et... = I believe that
Minusta/Must(a) tuntuu, että... = I feel that
Samaa mieltä = to have the same opinion
Olen samaa mieltä = I agree (I have the same opinion/mind)
"mielipide" = opinion, "mieltä" is the partitive of the word "mieli" = mind
- Oon samaa mieltä sun kanssa = I agree with you
- Oon tosta samaa mieltä = I agree with that
En ole samaa mieltä, koska = I don’t agree, because (I don’t have the same opinion/mind)
- En oo samaa mieltä sun kanssa = I don’t agree with you
- En oo samaa mieltä tosta = I don’t agree with that

✨Small clarification/correction✨"samaa mieltä" is maybe better literally translated as - to have the same mind - because "mieltä" is the partitive form of "mieli" = mind. When you hear the phrase it just sounds like having the same opinion that's why I translated it like that 😅Opinion in Finnish is "mielipide" so you can definitely also say "minulla on sama mielipide" = I have the same opinion 🤗

One can say "we are of the same mind" in English, but that's a pretty literary usage which is not often heard.

I tried to make sentences using words i learn Sanoit, että vuosi 2020 olisi huono, hyväksyn sen. Sanoit, että vuosi 2021 ei olisi mahtava, uskon sen.Mutta mielestäni ensi vuosi olisi mahtava

I think Kat needs to make a video on Finnish punctuation. In all the Finnish examples in this video, commas were missing where I expected them and present where I did not expect them.

Oh interesting point! In Finnish there are some words you always use a comma in front of. Että is one of them but it’s def something I could talk about more!

@@KatChatsFinnish I didn't have a lot of data to extrapolate from in this video, but I was thinking Finnish might be like German and Russian, where you must put a comma at every clause boundary. Of course, I'm just guessing.

for the sentence "minun mielestäni talvi on Suomessa tosi kaunis", can I say in this way "minun mielestäni talvi on tosi kaunis Suomessa" ?

If we want to use luulla like in the video you’d say: mä luulin There is also a verb ajatella which is used for thoughts in your head. It’s hard to know which verb to use without the full sentence though! I was thinking sounds more like thoughts in the head so you’d probably say: mä ajattelin
