Git architecture is based on a distributed version control system where every developer has a full copy of the project repository. It uses snapshots instead of differences, storing a snapshot of the entire repository at each commit. Repositories contain three main states: working directory, staging area, and commit history. Branching and merging are lightweight operations, allowing for easy experimentation and collaboration. Git also includes powerful features for history rewriting, enabling developers to reorganize commit sequences for clarity.
