What an exciting part of our build! Constructing our own ICF walls AND filling them with concrete.
We will go over what went well and what we would do differently. we start by explaining how we build the shell with ICF block. Then we cut out the window and door bucks. Finally we filled our forms with rebar and concrete.
To get the wall filled, we needed to install braces to straighten our walls and give us scaffolding for the pour. We ran into some trouble and had to pour in two separate days. Learning how to build and pour ICF walls has been an adventure and we thank you for following along.
All in all, we are so grateful to have this piece completed and look forward to our next project--the roof!

For someone who plans an ICF home in the future, I really like how in detail you go with it, thus earning a sub and likes on your videos. This means you need to keep going [inserted thumbs up emoticon]

@@Mountainview-mesa i plan on starting 2025 and was also planning to document every part of it, with exact finances. And since Im in EU, I get to do the comparison in EUR, which i havent found much in YT. Vast majority of those house build channels are in US. But keep up documenting all the mistakes you make, those mistakes are what makes this channel so much more unique.

@@raidotisler3121 being in the EU, you would definitely be serving a market in desperate need! Yes, most good building channels are US based. But I've noticed most of my favorite woodworking and mountain biking channels are in Europe or England. Can't wait to see your channel start up!

I enjoy your videos. You’re about 6 weeks or so ahead of me so I’m trying to learn from any mistakes and from successes. Many people won’t try things so kudos to y’all. A big part is being able to accept when things go wrong and learn from it. Good luck with the rest of your project.

I hesitate to mention my mistakes because I feel so foolish about them. In the end, I'm glad I can post the things I screw up on. Nobody is perfect, but I think I'm a little farther away from perfect than most!

@@Mountainview-mesamost people will not attempt 1/100 of what you do. Mistakes are inevitable. I am in the process of demo of an old house and at first I thought of doing regular stud structure but I am moving away from that idea more and more. Great videos.

Just been recommended your channel by KZfaq and working my way through your videos. I’m currently looking at a plot and building my own ICF house next year like you. I’ve a degree in architecture and over a decade in contract management and still have my fears of doing it so kudos to you guys. Thoroughly enjoying watching, your doing amazing and I look forward to sending you a link to my videos as I make my house so you can witness all the mistakes even a “professional” makes. Keep up the good work.

Another option with the j-bolts on the top sills is Burmon Hurricane Anchors. Clearco Fasteners Inc out of Lakeville, MN sells them. The j-bolt holds down a plate that spans across the icf and has a place for the truss to sit on as well as bolting into the truss. Eliminates the need of a sill plate.

Thank you for your videos. They are super helpful Which block system did you use and why?
@Mountainview-mesa
@Mountainview-mesa 2 ай бұрын
We used Amvic blocks. There is no reason other than I wanted to work with BFS and Amvic is what they carry locally. All of the ICF systems are amazing. If it's done properly (i.e better than what we did), you will only need to worry about your foam for a week, two at most. Are you building soon?

Wonder how long did it take you to install ICF block walls excluding filming ? Hope you can share. I’m thinking of hiring installers not sure is it worth spending money for speed

If coming wasn't an issue, I would have had all of the ICF and rebar done in 2 days. If you are handy in the least, you can do it!

Yes! I feel so dumb. I'm slowly learning to trust my gut on things like this. In hindsight, this was such a common sense thing, it's embarrassing that I didn't do it.

@jdeesy it's a long story that would throw some people under the bus. They feel guilty about it already. Honestly, it was just pure stupidity on my part. I've been around this stuff long enough to know better.
