Great topic / video ❤ Super helpful. I am wondering if the level from both the lead vocal and instrument should be adjusted to a sound level meter (80-85db?) as a base and then fill in the rest? This would help to keep volume levels consistent and safe. Hearing is different with everyone, especially as we get older. Thanks!

That only works if it matches the dynamic of the particular song section, so even that's a moving target. SPL can be a guideline, but to discover it, you have to feel it.

Good video for mixing boards that only have panning and volume pots. Panning+polariy is the most important mixing attribute for really pro guys. Good video though.

Hello sir. If you made a video about "setting a monitor for a wireless ear mic" can you please link it here? For my Church(Lutheran Church), we do not have a dedicated monitor. I tried giving that mic to the Pastor but the monitor dedicated to the stage takes signal from the main speaker and initially I set that mic perfectly but after sometime I messed it up and the mic was interfering with the monitor and if I put a low sound, the tuning is not perfect (my Pastor keeps asking for more treble) and so I was not using that mic for a long time and now I want to give that wireless mic to the keyboardist who sits near the left speaker. Does he need to sit below the speaker (exactly beside the speaker stand)?

i wonder if you'd have any thoughts on console selection - relative - to average operator skill level? the avantis + stagebox is a $20,000 beast of a system, yet my concern for many churches is if systems like these are actually hindering the team more than helping them. since you were going over basic volume leveling concepts and mute groups, i wonder if a simpler and less expensive console purchase would have been more appropriate? i really don't know about this church specifically, but it's something i've seen in many churches before. $20,000 for AVL equipment is a drop in the bucket, but $20,000 for other ministries is LIFE CHANGING capital. so, i'm wondering if you have any thoughts and encouragement to churches/venues to get the tool appropriate for their operator's skill level even if it's an X32, or SQ, or Avantis, or dLive- if all the console is going to be used for is just pulling faders up and down, might as well just get an analog desk instead and send the spare $19,000 to outreach, yeah?

I see the price obstacle and ease of use as separate issues. In my opinion the Avantis is one of the easiest mixers to navigate, everything is intuitive and built in a logical manner. More affordable consoles such as Behringer and Presonus offerings I find to be a little more cumbersome to navigate. I do agree that 20k is a lot for a many churches to swallow and if it is financially a stretch I agree, there are many much affordable options out there.

This is a good question, and I think Aaron has a great response. An expensive console doesn't necessarily mean added complexity for users. Nearly any console can be set up in a way that's logical and easy-to-use for beginners. The justification for a mid-range console rather than one of the entry-level pro consoles could come from a variety of factors that go beyond what the least-skilled volunteer can pull off.

@@SamuelStephen not being able to sing is vastly different in my opinion than an instrument being out of tune, especially a guitar. If I was behind the board I would definitely advise the guitar player to tune. Your job is to make it sound good and make sure there are no distraction during worship and I think tuning the guitar would be one less distraction.

I guess the best way to use this exercise is to say. Here’s your mission. When does it start to become too much. That’s your limit. Second. When is too low. Third what’s the middle in those two parameters. Fourth make it feel good now. Fifth let me hear everyone. 6th only mix what you believe is going to benefit the congregation the best. Not what you like but what will allow the congregation to join in worship.

There are inconsistencies between the chords the guitar is playing and what the keys are playing. Mixing can only go so far if the sound tech isnt given adequate raw material to work with. A discreet word to the worship leader would appear to be called for.
@AttawayAudio
@AttawayAudio 2 ай бұрын
Yeah we can't polish that at the sound board :) Recordings get repeated (as in this case), but mistakes live don't always get repeated. I'd only step in and say something if it was a consistent problem.
