Simon should compare his lap times from his 500cc (prototype) and SBK (race modified) days with this BMW (production bike) lap time. Just for little perspective of massive technology shift in couple of decades.

After his win at donington setting a lap record that stood for many years the tyre manufacturer changed the following year and Simon couldn't get that feeling back that he needed from the front end so ended up being employed by the tyre manufacturer as a test rider for many many years and his feedback was invaluable with the tyre progression. So not a world champion just a passionate champion of a guy and a fan of MotoGP..... And is well respected in the paddock and knows a lot about the technology that's happening week in and week out , so he's alright imo
