Damn it! I'm not sure what it is about 'Thank you for this', but it sounds to me like a bunch of heavy and epic break-downs, all mixed together. Feels like it's an incomplete song. Yet, somehow, it's amazing as it is. Probably, I'd just wanted it to have even more of those weird, odd-tempos added to it. Always got me loving those (Aqua dementia, black tongue, chimes at midnight, etc).

Yea Remission was the best possible progression from these songs, the way I usually describe this album is sonic schizophrenia it’s badass and really dark but a little too manic, but that’s what made Mastodon great, their energy, it just needed to be dialed in and Remission was that.

These 9 songs originally made up Mastodon's first demo album, which featured Eric Saner on vocals. After he left the band, they re-recorded the vocals, and the new versions were released as the EPs "Slick Leg" and "Lifesblood." This compilation features the same recordings as those EPs, but the tracks were remastered and had samples removed for this release.

first off.Mastodon is my favourite band. This album is far from bad,but in my opinon it suffers from crowded musical ideas and when that happens nothing reall stands out. Since human brain can only concentrate at 1 or 2 things at a time. The production is where it suffers most. Keep in mind again this is just my opinon i may be wrong. Drums are a bit too loud. Too manny frequencies colliding (this could be fixed with precise eq) Too much stuff happening in the drums(this is just Brann being Brann tho hahaaha)

@barneypanofsky1957
@barneypanofsky1957 7 жыл бұрын
Funny thing is that from The Hunter they have started to create "more of the same", without trying to add something new to their sound. It's just an easy listening version of the Mastodon we used to know. You can't really compare the variety and the complexity of their first albums to their most recent songs. The main riff from Show Yourself is flat, dumb and simple. The only good thing I've heard recently is the last part of Andromeda. So, yeah, it seems to me that they ARE actually afraid to try new things.
@ajr4888
@ajr4888 7 жыл бұрын
Albums out now, Show Yourself doesn't even feel like it belongs on it. It's like Mastodon covered a QoTSA song and added it randomly to the tracklist. Not saying it's bad, but boy does it not mesh with the rest of the tracks.
@barneypanofsky1957
@barneypanofsky1957 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I've heard the new album and I have to agree. Show Yourself doesn't even seem to played by the same band. Emperor of Sand surprised me, in a good way. I think it's their best album since Crack the Skye. The songs are quite rich and sometimes you can even hear the old sludgy sound. Hinds has done an awesome work on the solos and they have added a lot of sound effects, psychedelic atmospheres, keyboards....
@ajr4888
@ajr4888 7 жыл бұрын
I agree, it's a great album with one average song thrown in.The thing with Mastodon is that they have such a rich and unique song catalogue that an average tune like Show Yourself seems bad, but only in direct comparison to the bands other work. If another band had released Show Yourself it'd likely be praised, but it just falls flat when compared to absolute gems like Word to the Wise and Jaguar God. There seems to be a lot of old school progressive and psychedelic rock influences on the album and Show Yourself just doesn't fit that tone and theme. I'd definitely put the album up there with CTS, it has their strongest closing song since The Last Baron and everything after track 2 flows beautifully.
