It's been over a year with the Matador Beast 28. I get asked often am I still using it, what day pack do I recommend, how comfortable is the pack.... So after all this time with the Beast 28 logged in, it's time for the long term review!

Great review!!! I have the old version of this pack and I have taken it everywhere with me for years. I have a simple foldable, foam cell "seat" pad that I have tucked into the hydration pocket, that doubles as back padding and I can easily pull out and have a clean place to rest my bum off of the rocks. I rarely use a hydration bladder and prefer a water bottle but I have to place it inside the pack since this version has outer pockets that are too small for the 1 liter bottles which I carry. I like that this updated version is a nice, deep black as compared to the grey and black version I have. I wont miss the top zippered lid compartment which I wasn't a fan of. My version has a full U-shaped zipper unlike the "J" on yours, as well as a clip secured open pocket on the front of the pack. The only issues I had with it were the main compartment zipper would get stuck in the lining too much and was causing wear on the material. Also the chest clip on the back pack straps fell off a long time ago. I stopped using it recently because of the zipper issue and it started to look really worn. However, I got a lot of life out of it and am looking at replacing it with another beast. I think I'd get another 28, but perhaps I'll give another look at the 18. I hope Matador sends you a pack to review!

Thanks for checking the video out! There are a few features from the V1 I would like to have incorporated into this version. But all in all, I am very satisfied with this bag. One of the few I have hung into for this long. And still use regularly.

Awesome review! I have been looking at HMG Daypack for a while, and has been one step from buying it, but then i saw a review were the backpack is very noisy fabric. After your reveiw it stands between the Beast 18 or Beast28, your reveiw made it even harder to choose.😅 I have the Matador On-Grid Packable Backpack from before!

If I didn’t have to carry for three people, I would definitely have a beast 18 in my arsenal as well. I absolutely love this 28. I think that speaks volumes that I’m still using it for over a year after my initial review

Just contemplating to get the beast 18 vs The Able Daybreaker 2. But this long term review is certainly helpful

I'm still thinking about getting the Beast 18 because I love this pack so much. I highly recommend the 18 or 28L version.

@@jeffgrantMEDIA with the new seg28 coming out do you think there’s gonna be a new update for the beast series?
@jeffgrantMEDIA
@jeffgrantMEDIA Жыл бұрын
@@HarimaKenji22 I don’t think so. It’s a pretty basic design. And exacted really well. Maybe a gridlock color. I would like to see a duraatretch front pocket.

I’m not normally a huge fan of orange, i lean more towards red. But the orange do look really great on this pack.

Thoughts on the Eddie Bauer Bacon 2.0 vs Beast 28? They're very similar. I would say the outside pocket system for Bacon is more appealing, it folds down much smaller, but it doesn't seem to have good hydration bladder clips, the side pockets are shallow, not as much outside pocket space, and no frame.

I do check out Eddie Bauer bags from time to time. And I actually own one of their small 20 L packable day packs ( the name escapes me at the moment). I don’t remember if I’ve seen the beacon or not. But thanks for the tip, I’m definitely going to check it out today. There’s actually an outlet store not too far from my house that I go to from time to time. Might have to see if they have one in stock to my hands on it maybe purchase for review

Hello, great review, very helpful, thanks for sharing! I have a question, I'm going to do the Camino de Santiago, walking for 38 days carrying 13 pounds of weight and walking 15.5 miles daily. My question is, do you think the shoulder straps will be comfortable enough for the Camino de Santiago?
@jeffgrantMEDIA
@jeffgrantMEDIA 11 ай бұрын
You're doing Camino de Santiago! That's awesome. I would go with something different though There are plenty of cottage companies that make some great UL Through hiking gear with more shoulder support. The Beast is a packable day pack, so the straps will be a bit to thin for long extended days. You mat want to check out Waymark, Dandee, Atom Packs, Granite Gear, ect. They will still have a very light weight, but thicker straps for through hiking.

@@jeffgrantMEDIA Thank you for responding so quickly! I was just about to buy it, but I'm glad I asked in time. I will review the recommendations you gave me, and I'm sure I'll find the best backpack. You've gained a subscriber; your channel is great. Greetings!

@@batey23 Happy I could help before you spent the money. It's a great day pack. I'm actually considering getting the 18L version for a family trip in a few months... that's how much I love it. But it's not the right pack for your application. I would go with a pack form any of those listed above if I were doing a through hike either here in the US or in Spain.

Really annoying that you didn’t show us its packed form just because you “didn’t feel like emptying it”. Otherwise an okay review.

It doesn’t really matter what I have in the back, because I guarantee you you’re going to pack out far different gear than what I have. And everything‘s inside organizer cubes inside, so I was gonna take everything out of those after I took all those out of the bag.

@@jeffgrantMEDIA I meant showing us how the pack is folded and what it looks like once it is; how much space it takes in its compact form. However, I’ll check out the video you linked anyways. Thanks for your reply.
