Lake Skadar in Montenegro has to go on your bucket list right now. It looks like something out of a movie. I was lucky enough to be with a couple of locals that showed me the secrets of the lake. When a swan came up to our boat, I had to pinch myself. When Boris, our Captain and local fisherman, pulled up to a chestnut underwater forest (is that what they’re called?), I was in heaven. But then, I saw the water lilies. Tens of thousands of them. And what a sight.
This place will surprise you, it will astound you and keep you guessing. If you’re like me and all that makes you hungry, a traditional Montenegrin meal is a must. I went to a beautiful restaurant in Bar, Montenegro, about 30 minutes from the lake. I tried pomegranate beer, pomegranate wine, recipes that have been perfected over hundreds of years and best of all a veal steak that had been marinated in oil for five days prior to grilling.
