Matamba bush camp was one of my first campsite reviews. Considering it's one of my favourite campsites I thought it only fitting to do a refresh (2021).
Matamba bush camp is located in the Waterberg region of the Limpopo province in South Africa. It is a great weekend camping getaway from Johannesburg / Pretoria / Polokwane or an overland stopover to or from Botswana.
So whether you're a international self-drive visitor or just want to break away from the city, be sure to visit this great bush campsite!

We also camped there and agree with you Chris. It is really a nice campsite with beautiful trees. Not to far from the main road (Ellisras - Vaalwater) but far enough not to hear the traffic. Very nice report.

One good thing from Covid is how many you tubers have taken the opportunity to tour SA. Makes us realize - as if we didn’t know before- what a stunning country it is !

Good Job as we have become accustomed. I will be on my bucket list. Know the reasoning why not to include pricing. But price for sites is always welkom. Tx again for good reviews.

Thanks Andre! I stay out of pricing as it changes regularly and it can get quite complicated (seasonal rates, base rate vs pppn fees, park fees, vehicle fees, conservation fees, etc etc).

This place looks amazing Chris! Great review👍 One thing I notice on their website is that there is 60 odd km's of roads, several waterholes & hides, but they say no driving on the farm!? 🤔 So how does one get around to explore the farm, game viewing etc?

All of the trails are hiking or mountain biking trails, driving is not allowed on the farm. The game are used to hikers / bikers

Northern Mexico also has very exciting places to visit - Copper Canyon, Cuatro Cienegas, Baja California, mountains around Monterrey etc. Although

Thanks Pieter! Personally, off-road caravan, especially if you’re on the road a lot and have many one-night stops. Gaan maak gerus n draai, baie lekker kampplek!
