Don’t you love it when Gene makes fun of the contestant’s answer and 3 of the panelists have the correct answer.

I was SUPER surprised that Brett and Gene knew Salome's connection to John the Baptist.

Salome is a famous opera too, so they may know it from that.

Wow, Gene actually knows who Bart Starr is?! I'm shocked! Seriously, I wouldn't have guessed he'd have known about the Packers' legendary QB from the Lombardi era of the 60s!

Not many actors from NBC made it on here. That's largely because NBC was in the ratings basement during these years.

H/H match update: ... ~~~Today's action: It sounds unlikely to match three celebs with this question (to achieve a tie), but that's what the champ needs to do, and that's what he does! It comes down to Betty: does she match and win the game for him or do we go to a tie-breaker? It's the latter. And after Richard fails to match (a "foot" note?!), it's up to Betty (with her animal magnetism) to decide the game once again. This time she matches and our champion wins his second game. *Today's audience match question: "________Starr"* (My thoughts: Ringo, When you wish upon a, ???) The celebs: Richard (Ringo), Betty (Brenda), Bernie (Kay) The choice: Ringo The answers: Bart, Brenda, Ringo That was a hard one for me to come up with three, but an easy one to guess the top answer, then and now. There was never any doubt he'd choose King Richard, and not this is his 68th consecutive H/H attempt. (No other celeb has played a head-to-head question since Fannie in 1132.) Stats: Richard has matched 156 of his 357 most recent attempts (43.7%), 95 of his last 217 attempts (43.8%), 48 of his past 109 attempts (44.0%), 34 of his past 82 attempts (41.5%), and 17 of his past 40 attempts (42.5%). His overall success rate is *42.4%* and this is his 835th attempt so far. For the sake of comparison: Betty has matched 19 of her 38 attempts (50.0%), Charles has matched 34 of his 70 attempts (48.6%), Richard has matched 354 of his 834 attempts (42.4%), and Brett has matched 30 of her 71 attempts (42.3%). Lee has answered one H/H question without matching, and Bernie Kopell hasn't yet answered a H/H question. *Today's H/H question: "________Focus"* (Out of? Soft? In and out of? I really have no strong feelings here... Out of focus.) Richard decides quickly, but appears to be reading Betty's suggestion(s) even as he's writing something. He files his card. I honestly didn't expect that. The champion doesn't hesitate, giving the same answer I thought of. The audience approves, but Gene seems surprised, like he was expecting something different. Well I'll be! Once again, it's unanimous! (And I thought my answer was sort of stupid.) "Out of" says the card! Richard scores his 355th H/H match today. ~~~Here's our updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: (An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.) (For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.) Orson Bean - 100% (4 matches in 4 attempts). TIE: (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 matches in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 matches in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 71.4% (5 matches in 7 attempts). Betty - 50.0% (19 matches in 38 attempts). Charles - 48.6% (34 matches in 70 attempts). Fannie - 48.5% (16 matches in 33 attempts). (*)Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 matches in 18 attempts). Richard - 42.5% (355 matches in 835 attempts). Brett - 42.3% (30 matches in 71 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 matches in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 1197, excluding the missing/damaged/unavailable episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, 645, 910, 1024, 1025, 1026, 1027, 1028, 1029, and 1030. *Also, note that episode 849 was never produced. (These stats do, however, include the H/H results of missing episode 968 as those results were revealed in episode 969. Note: There was no H/H in missing episode 1035, as we learn in 1036.)
