Atlanta United hosted New York Red Bulls at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in what was a physical matchup between the two Eastern Conference clubs. After a chippy match where 29 fouls were committed, six yellow cards issued in the first half alone, Atlanta United held onto an early 1-0 lead from a Giorgos Giakoumakis goal to earn the club's first-ever regular season win over Red Bulls.
Atlanta United joined Major League Soccer in 2017 and won the 2018 MLS Cup in just its second season, the earliest an expansion team has won the title since 1998. The club has set multiple league records including season tickets sales (36,000-plus), single-season average (53,002) and total home attendance (901,033). Owned by Arthur M. Knowing the history with nyrb and how every game we play against them is a ugly one boys put up a fight and showed heart. Not ever game going be beautiful, sometimes you have to grind out the ugly one but at the end of the day a win is a win in soccer.

Seeing them grind out a win gives me a lot of hope for this AU squad. We have given up too many late equalizers over the years. This was an ugly scrappy win but a win none the less

This hurts me to say but we played terrible today. Yeah we won but we could’ve played better. Especially Almada. He made many passes that gave away possession.
