The 1966 to 1972 Matchbox 70B Grit-Spreading Truck uses a Ford D-series chassis. This commercial vehicle was introduced in 1965 by Ford of Britain as a replacement for the Thames Trader. Coincidentally, this model also replaced a Thames. The 70A was a Thames Estate Car.
My example was sent in by long-time channel supporter Tony. It had very flaky paint and an incredibly dull grille which was part of the silver plated base. I repainted it in the original colours, though in a slightly darker shade of the red and yellow. Darker shades of red and yellow were used at the end of the regular wheels run, just before the model transitioned to the Superfast range in 1971. This was not of my choosing, more a limiting factor in exclusively using rattle cans.
The D-series itself was produced by Ford until 1981 when it was replaced by the Ford Cargo.
