Matchbox Restoration: Off Road 4x4 Van. Today I restore a vintage 1:64 scale Matchbox Racing van! This cool 4x4 van needed a restoration, it was pretty crusty. I tape and paint my own graphics this time instead of making decals (for the main colors anyway).

That van was one of my favorite as a kid. The Aspin truck had a removable camper shell. Andy should print one.

If you ever do another van. Have your thought about making it like a Dakar Racer? They run everything from dirt bikes, to trophy trucks, rally cars, to diesel trucks like the Kamaz. They're crazy.

I love this casting! Prefer the orange one with the standard chassis with large wheels on the rear and smaller on the front. Great job on the paint!

Another custom van from the 70s was the 76/77 Ford custom van with bubble window in the backside & color was silver with orange, yellow, purple stripes starting from the too rear roof corner down running along the side edge.

I had one exactly like that at least 30 years ago. I remember it having basically no paint left on it the whole time I had it, so I must have picked it up from a yard sale or something like that, unfortunately I also have vague memories of possibly painting it with some of my mom's nail polish 😂

So I love to see these old Matchbox diecasts being redone and given new life. I used to collect mainly Matchbox when I was a kid back in the 70's and early 80's - it was strange but I like the realism rather than the funky style of a lot of Hot Wheels of the time - now that I'm an old man I like the Hot Wheels style stuff more.

I used to pad print for a living. Sloppy sloppy workmanship. Pad printing is chemistry all in itself. I had to mix ink, hardener and thinner in the right proportions or else I'd have thin soup. My favorite thing to print was golf balls with the company logo on them. Now your work. Schweeeeet! Better than the printer.

You should patina the aspen truck, leave the graphics and whatnot alone, just make it look like an old truck that’s been beaten on and still doing work
