SHARON FARRELL was just another pretty TV actress building up a good reputation when she was cast as a JANIS JOPLIN-like singer in an episode of "The Name of The Game". Seemingly out of left field, she gave a magnificent, unforgettable performance, a genuine tour-de-force that blew everyone's mind (vernacular of the day). Yes, she was better than Bette Midler in "The Rose". Overnight she easily became the most sought-after actress in town. Hollywood fumbled it, of course, and stuck her in a big, glossy, A-list treatment of Jacqueline Susann's "The Love Machine". It was a disaster.

When they brought the wheel to the show, it changed. It use to be the contestants choice who they would likely match with. Yes, the money in theory could double, but 90% of the time, contestants would choose Richard Dawson.

Those were the days. I was a smoker back then. People smoked everywhere. Even on these game shows while the stars played the game. It was such a different time back then. People never complained about others choices. If we didn't like something we kept it to ourselves and tolerated others. We never thought the there would be a thing called a pc culture. People then we're so much betterexceptung others. I remember 1976 and the celebration for our 200th birthday. You could feel the pride in everyone. We all joined together and put our differences aside for a few days and we where a proud to be a American. Good times that our children will never get to experience. This country is falling apart and soon there will be a civil disturbance unlike anything we have ever imagined. Hate has taking the place of pride. Hate that has taking a hold on this country and divided us. Hate never turns out well. However, after the dust clears truth will reveal the answer. GBA we need it.

H/H match update: ... ~~~Today's action: Our champion is defeated after three wins. She is our very last champion to have chosen her own H/H partner. In fact, the only H/H she ever matched was with the celeb she chose herself (Brett), just before they introduced the wheel. She won a total of $6,300. *Today's audience match question: "Sunrise________"* (My thoughts: Serenade, Sunset, over the mountains) The celebs: Scoey (Seranade), Richard (Services), Charles (Sunset) The choice: Sunset The answers: Service, Serenade, Sunset - Kudos to Charles for coming up with the top answer in third position. And how in the world did I think of it? I honestly can't recall the song, but the expression just popped into my mind! (It's possible I saw this episode as a kid.) Well, a new champion gets to spin the wheel. We haven't had a "double" yet. Or a match yet with the wheel! A misfire as the wheel fails to make a full revolution. A redo spin gives us Brett, but no double... (It's interesting that Brett's no longer super nervous about the H/H. I think before, when a player would specifically call on her instead of Richard, she felt a lot of pressure not to let them down. Now that the champions have no choice, Brett feels less on the spot, if that makes any sense. Charles was also relaxed yesterday, for that matter. I wonder if the other celebs will follow suit and also not be so intimidated to answer a H/H in the future.) Star Wheel Tally: Richard 1 (0 dbls, 0 matches) - Charles 1 (0 dbls, 0 matches) - Brett 1 (0 dbls, 0* matches) - *so far, awaiting today's results... Stats: Brett last played in 1245 (match), 1206 (match), 1071 (no match), 1037 (match), 982 (match), 858 (no match) 854 (match), 818 (match), and 804 (no match). She's matched 13 out of her 22 most recent attempts (59.0%), which goes all the way back to episode 641. Overall, she's matched 32 of her 73 attempts (43.8%). For the sake of comparison: Charles has matched 34 of his 71 attempts (47.9%), Brett has matched 32 of her 73 attempts (43.8%), and Richard has matched 370 of his 873 attempts (42.4%). The remaining panelists - Mary Wickes, Scoey Mitchell, and Sharon Farrell - have never been selected to play a head-to-head question, but I bet that will change by the end of the week! *Today's H/H question: "Cream and_______"* (This sounds easy again. Cream and sugar. But then, I thought yesterday's was a sure winner too.) Brett begins writing almost immediately. We see the champion nodding, as if having already chosen an answer she's satisfied with. Brett glances toward Scoey, as if reading his suggestion(s), but whatever she sees doesn't change her mind. She files her card. The champion offers the suggested answer and the audience response is a solid 10 on the positivity scale. It's unanimous today! "Sugar." Brett scores her 33rd H/H match today. Note: Brett scored the very last H/H match before the Star Wheel, and the very first H/H match after the Star Wheel was introduced! (And she moves ahead of Jo Ann Pflug on the leader board.) ~~~Here's our updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: (An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.) (For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.) Orson Bean - 100% (4 matches in 4 attempts). TIE: (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 matches in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 matches in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 71.4% (5 matches in 7 attempts). Betty - 51.2% (21 matches in 41 attempts). Fannie - 48.5% (16 matches in 33 attempts). Charles - 47.9% (34 matches in 71 attempts). Brett - 44.6% (33 matches in 74 attempts). (*)Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 matches in 18 attempts). Richard - 42.4% (370 matches in 873 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 matches in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 1248, excluding the missing/damaged/unavailable episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, 645, 910, 1024, 1025, 1026, 1027, 1028, 1029, and 1030. *Also, note that episode 849 was never produced. (These stats do, however, include the H/H results of missing episode 968 as those results were revealed in episode 969. Note: There was no H/H in missing episode 1035, as we learn in 1036.)

Did anyone ever say WHY she was wearing a bathing suit?
@earlofopsis13079 ай бұрын
In her interview with MG Productions, Sharon said she was really nervous about being on the show that first time and having nothing to talk about. She knew she could always talk about her clothes as a fallback, so that's why she chose a bathing suit...it would start a conversation, which it did.
@kevansf5 ай бұрын
@@earlofopsis1307 But in the other comment, you said she was upset when Brett mentioned it. You've got me confused: you say she chose to wear the swimsuit to start a conversation and then was upset when it did?
@earlofopsis13075 ай бұрын
@@kevansf my interpretation of what she said in the interview was the answer was both. She wanted the swim suit to be like an ice breaker to get the other celebrities to talk to her, but she didn't want it to be the center of the conversation as Brett was trying to do.
@kevansf5 ай бұрын
@@earlofopsis1307Ah, got it now! But I'm still not sure why she would wear a swimsuit on air if she was so shy about talking about it / showing it. Discussing and joking about panelists' attire has long been a staple of the show. (From Fannie's collection of off-beat and interesting shirts in the past all the way to Dick Martin's habit of wearing the same outfit all five shows to Mary's tablecloth this week.) Well, it was still funny watching Gene's reaction to it as he babbled on about it. Another of the many wild and quirky things that happened on the show!
