Aloha, everyone. It's a late afternoon here in Maui, and I thought I'd share a bit of acoustic blues with you. You know, those classic tunes like "You Rock Me All Night Long"-it's been covered by legends like Led Zeppelin, B.B. King, and so many others. Today, I wanted to give you my take on it.
I'm playing in the key of E, one of my favorites. Sometimes, I like to blend my guitar and voice in unison to bring it all together. I'm just freestyling here, mixing different licks and tempos. Blues is all about feeling free with the form, just like Clapton and Keb' Mo' do. It's not about sticking to one way of playing but exploring different approaches.
One of my students, John, once said that what I teach is more about the approach, which is spot on. We all have our unique way of hearing and playing music. So, this is just my way of feeling the blues. Hopefully, it will help you find your own style and vocabulary licks, or what I like to call "connective tissue," in music.
I hope you're enjoying your guitar as much as I do. It's been my saving grace through all the ups and downs of life. So, I'm going to leave you with a bit more blues, and I hope you can take something from it-not as a lesson but more of a show and tell.
Feel free to hit me up at jimmydillon.co... for some free fun stuff, and I'd love to hear any comments or ideas you have. If there are any songs you want me to teach, let me know. I'm a bit unorthodox, but I hope it works for you. There are so many great teachers out there to learn from, and it's fun to pick up tips and tricks wherever you can.
Alright, I'll see you down the road. Let's play some blues!
