the beginning of the end? (or the middle of it...) Joe and Paul stuck together till the end, Remember Jones wanted to dance, Joe/Paul wanted to riot... so clearly there was some division there. Once a "unit" now fracturing... they were stuck. Do they "limp" on... trying to carry the flag; or do they pull the plug and start over? WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE? An interesting post... a look behind the scenes as it unravels... still the best band ever. "what are we gonna do now?"

What is wrong with people? Joes pissed off and giving a passionate, rambling rant and people are criticising. I respect what hes saying and trying to get across

because he said all this and then went and released cut the crap

@@lucasthurston6109 Joe never released it. Bernie was pressured to release an album so he got unfinished tracks and put a drum machine over it then released it. This is England was released without Joes knowledge because the label demanded a single they paid for.

@@Scott_M23 fair enough, I'm also a big Joe fan so wasn't hating just trying to be funny, I believe you'll find it was also famed musician Jose Unidos who made cut the crap

Joe needed some Seroquel at this point. There was a lot of really good punk stuff in the '80's; it was probably the best time for the genre, even if it didn't sell a lot. Husker Du, Black Flag, Saccharine Trust, anything on SST. Sonic Youth. The Clash should have continued along the Combat Rock trail, they did some interesting stuff there. They could have kept doing extended dance remixes to keep Mick happy.

Apart from dissing Mick and the odd comment here and there, I think Joe is pretty much on the money (if you can tolerate his long-winded tirades).

Bands that stick together too long (or make "comebacks" after solo projects fizzle to nothing) eventually become parodies........but give the people what they want -- at the right price.

Amazing that after all this ranting about stuff being overproduced and too many overdubs, etc., that they put out a horrendous abomination like "Cut the Crap." Some good songs under all that clutter, but that was one of the most overproduced pieces of dung ever released. Man, I love Joe, but he must blush from embarrassment somewhere everytime someone watches the interviews from this period.

@jenart1 Those were not his opinions. It was really all an act and a sad one at that. Joe was a much better person than those interviews in 1984 suggest. He was weak willed when it came to personal relationships though. It's painful to watch because he is so clearly trying to convince himself that what he is saying and doing is right when deep down, he knows it isn't. My friend put it well: 1984 - Least likeable Joe ever.

he's got the platform and he's letting loose. what he's saying came true too for a while. .think about all the terrible music in the late eighties and early nineties. unfortunatly the final "clash" album is a part of that. . i think with this it could be said that he was railing against rhodes, not openly, but against what he knew was happening to his music. the wasll were closing in on poor joe, and he knew it. if he was a puppet here,he was a puppet who really wanted to pull by on the string

please be mindful of the fact that Joe aint around any more. I HATE music fans slagging off icons like Richey, Kurt and Joe...i mean they were icons because they were all brilliant men - something u and i could never be

don't see what's wrong with all this. Meant to be anti-stadium doll rock, and music integration and riot and genuine punk.

Because he's completely full of shit in this interview. He's a talking head for Bernie. He talks about everything being overproduced fluff and then comes out with Cut the Crap, one of the most ineptly overproduced albums ever.
