Congratulations. Always claim child benefit when you have a child. It gets you the money and you get NI credits even if you aren't working. You should also claim it even if you have to pay the benefit back due to you or your husband earning more than £50k, so that you get the NI credit for pension purposes. There is also a box on the form you can tick to say you don't actually want the cash as your husband or you're earning too much but you want to claim.

Thank you so much for this. Does this still stand if you earn over £60k though? It doesn’t seem like it.

@@FinanceDee Yes. Say your hubby earns £60k and you're not earning. You're going to have to pay back all you get in child benefit but you don't pay back the NI credit that you've been given.

@@FinanceDee Congratulations Dee! The video is a great overview of what to expect when planning for maternity. I would just clarify that you only get the NI credits if you are unemployed or do not earn enough to make a qualifying year.

Aw, congrats Dee!!!! I pray you have a safe delivery and rest of your pregnancy 🙏🏽 I'm not pregnant yet but I've also been saving aggressively for maternity leave as my new company's policy isn't great at all, so a very timely video for me!

I work 24 hours a week only and I asked our HR dept to give me a detailed explanation about my pay for the first 6 weeks as it didn’t seem right. I got this calculations explanation from HR, is this at all correct? So the relevant earnings period to get her 90% is from the 11/12/22 - 10/02/23. Her weekly average earnings are £246.16 per week. This is then divided by the 7 days per week to give a daily total of £35.165. 35.165 multiplied by the 3 days is £105.497 90% 105.497 is 94.95 which she is receiving.
@FinanceDee
@FinanceDee Жыл бұрын
The only thing I don’t get is why they divided it by 7 days and not 5, as a working week is 5 days surely? So shouldn’t it be £246.16/5 = £49.23? Or do you have the ability to work 7 day weeks in your job? What industry is this?

Wow. Great video. Please my wife Has been working with the NHS as a band 5 nurse for the past 12 months. Now she is 4 months pregnant. She got a new job as a Band 6 Senior staff nurse with ANOTHER NHS. Please i want to know will she be entitled to the Maternity pay and leave?
@FinanceDee
@FinanceDee 10 ай бұрын
Hello 😊 The only way she will know if and what she is entitled to is to contact the HR at her current place of work. Now she’s 4 months pregnant now is a good time as by 25 weeks pregnant the latest she has to tell the employer she’s pregnant anyway to qualify for whatever maternity package they have.

Hey may I ask that I started job in march 2023 and my due date on 3rd September 2023 when I can apply for maternity pay?? I am still working may be I will work till August..
@FinanceDee
@FinanceDee Жыл бұрын
Congratulations to you! On the citizens advice website it says you can apply for SMP if “you work for your employer in the 15th week before your baby is due and have worked for them for at least 26 weeks before that” AND “your average pay, before tax, is at least £123 a week” Best thing to do is speak to your companies HR as well, they should be able to help 😊

@@FinanceDee thank u so much.. but I will complete 26 weeks in August. Or due date is September may be I'm not eligible
@FinanceDee
@FinanceDee Жыл бұрын
Ok you can probably qualify for ‘maternity allowance’ instead then. I don’t think you would need to do this through your employer. Have a Google search to look into it 😊
