Gréât vidéo with some good resources. TT really attracted me with the more hands off/independent approach for the student, but we realized since our oldest has epilepsy and screen time is discouraged, we opted out of it.

My twins and nephew are 8 months apart and my twin boy and my nephew are on the same level!!! I love how TGTB has kids of practice but if my kids get a concept we can skip the review but if it’s needed the review is done!!! I’m not sure if my twin son and nephew will finish school at 18 or do an extra year depending on how quickly we can do certain subjects that they struggle with!!!

Solid on Math With Confidence for all my kids. It's not something everyone can do right now since she's just now publishing 3rd grade this Spring and 4th grade will not be available until next spring. Right Start math would be my next choice. I do admit that I struggle with having to find time to teach so much math for 2 (soon 3) kids. But they like the curriculum a lot because the games and activities are fun and they understand the lessons very well.

I know it doesn't matter now but I found that you can easily skip from math 4 to math 6 with teaching textbooks. I looked into scope and sequence and it was almost the same from 4-5-6. We usually skip TT5 for that reason.

That is a very interesting thing to note. It's actually not too late for me to do that if I choose to. I'm not sure if I can do that with these two kids (they might need the additional practice), but my middle daughter probably could have. That being said, Math 7 has actually been a challenge for her.

So, I some states this might be similar to a “charter school”. It’s our public school alternative education option for us in WA. You can check with your school district and see if they have any “alternative” options like this. Most states do.

@@CalmintheChaosHomeschool yes. That’s a good level. They introduce and review all previous concepts on the strategic review pages. You want to make sure she can already do all the fractions and percent skills taught in Epsilon and Zeta first.

I am using TGTB level 2 for my rising 2nd grader. We used Dimensions Math this year & it wasn't bad but felt it was too much all at once for my daughter. I am still trying to decide what to use for my rising 6th grader since it'll be her first year homeschooling from the public school setting so a lot of assessments and things need to be made before we finalize her curriculum! I'm deciding between TGTB level 6 math, Teaching Textbooks or Saxon Math.

We only used it for that trail period so far. When we start the school year, we will officially start this. So nothing new yet! I’ll be sure to post when I have more info… I will say that it is probably best for kids who learn things pretty easily. I did not try it for my struggling math student because I didn’t think there would be enough practice for her. But I’m not 100% yet because having done it very long.

My 11 year old just started the old version of Good and Beautiful Math 4. She will continue that into next school year. My 13 year old is working through Simply Good and Beautiful Math 5. Once he finishes that I might have continue with Math 6 or just go straight to Algebra 1. For my high schooler, he will start ACE Geometry as soon as he finishes their Algebra 1. I love ACE for upper level math.

Can he go straight from math 6 to algebra 1? Do you the TGATB is that advance? That’s good to know about ACE math. I think I did Saxon math in high school, but ACE math up until then.

@@CalmintheChaosHomeschoolMath 5 and 6 both have a ton of pre algebra skills worked in through out both courses. I don't think a separate pre algebra course is really needed as long as the student is ready for that upper level reasoning. From 5th to 8th grade, there isn't really much change in most math courses, just a lot of repeating the same concepts over and over, filling up time until a student is developmentally ready for higher level math. ACE Algebra is broken up into very small chunks, with lots of review throughout each booklet; so it's not too overwhelming for kids that are fairly new to algebraic thinking. The first 3 booklets cover a lot of pre algebra concepts too.

Can I ask what your plan for your 8th grader is for beginning high school? My daughter struggles in math as well and is going into 7th grade. I was going to get her the good and the beautiful math 6 for this year. Do you think a student could go straight to pre algebra after TGATB 6? Thank you!
@CalmintheChaosHomeschool
@CalmintheChaosHomeschool Жыл бұрын
Ok… so I was not a math major or anything, but, yes, I believe TGATB is advanced enough that my daughter can probably start a pre-Algebra curriculum in her 9th grade year. I am impressed with the concepts she is learning in Math 5, and find it hard to believe that she will not know enough to start pre-Algebra after another year of this. Additionally, I know lots of homeschool parents who will skip a math level in 5th or 6th because a lot of the year is just reinforcing the basics already learned… or skip pre-Algebra and just go to Algebra. Another consideration, I have heard from another mom that TGATB math 8 will cover Algebra 1 concepts. So, I’m that case, Math 7 would be considered Pre- Algebra anyways. So, I’m also considering sticking with TGATB through Math 8. I don’t know how far we will go with this daughter as far as Math goes, either… we’ll see.
