In this video I review the Matthews Halon 6 and 7" brace height, both at 30 and 32" axle to axle length. IMPORTANT UPDATE - after I aired this video and shared it with Baker's Archery, they informed me that the bows were set up at 85% let off, but Matthew's advertised speed ratings are based off of the lower let off (75%). Baker's Archery informed me that the speeds would have been a little higher had the bows been set on the lower let off setting.

Very good review. I just the Halon 32 next to the PSE Evolve 31 at my local dealer. They were both great bows. But the Evolve had a smoother draw cycle and was definitely faster. The Halon seemed to dump into the valley more abruptly. I did, however, feel that the Mathews was superb and completely dead in hand. I also felt that the Mathews would hold on target better. Funny thing is, I didn't feel that either of them shot better than the Bowtech Invasion I currently own. Next stop is to try the Reign 6 and 7. Gotta feeling I'll like them a lot

Yeah, all nice bows. As you may have seen in the final review, I picked the Reign 6 as the top bow, but I will be shooting a PSE now that I am on the Drury Outdoors team.

Thanks, I think I would consider the Hybrid cam of the Xpedition or the Binary cam of BowTech for the cam system, and I would probably go with split limbs. I like the Hoyt riser and rollar guide system with the anti torque, so those would all be considerations for the project. I also like the Cam Shift technology of the BowTech which would be nice to have.

Nice review. Did all the bows have the same let off mod on them? I found it odd that the 7” BH bows were only 2-3FPS slower than the 6” counterparts. Although I have heard of people getting more speed out of the 32” Halon than the 30” version.

I just got a great deal on a left over new in the box halon 32 5. I was already shooting a Edge320 and I had poundage cranked to the stops. But it seems like a toy compared to this Mathews bow. It’s so much more aggressive wholly crap. It taken me a week or two to adjust. I was actually second guessing if maybe I had a 75-80lb limb lol it’s that much more aggressive than that other bow and ripping fast. My heavy arrows that everyone says are too slow....uhhh no. 528 grains and they’re 25 yards flat. At 30 yards they’re dropping 1.5 inches. Hardly a concern

Do you think the Halon 32 hold is any better than the Halon? So far it it looks like the Reign 6 with the comfort setting is really standing out for a 30 inch and below draw length shooter so far. Though I really like the Halons too. If you get a chance please do a 2017 Bear LS6 that would interesting, I never seen one at the shop to date.

Trying to decide between the 32 halon 6 or the xcursion 6. which did you prefer of the two? Thanks.
@seansoutdoors
@seansoutdoors 7 жыл бұрын
The Matthews is a sweet shooting bow but is really lacking in the back wall, for that reason, I would go with the Xcersion. The Xcursion is quite a bit faster and has a rock solid back wall as well yet is still really smooth, which are some other reasons. The Xpeditions tune up real nice too, if you have watched any of my tuning videos on them. But the end of the day, I think either will work. Matthews Halon is still a really nice bow.

@seansoutdoors
@seansoutdoors 6 жыл бұрын
I explained that in this series previously. I am shooting all of the bows with arrows with no fletchings because a lot of pro shops outfit their shop bows with whisker biscuits rests which slows down an arrow with fletchings. Other shops down't use them. Thus, in order to avoid compromised data for speed, I shot all of the bows with bare shafted arrows so that there was no friction from the rest slowing it down.

Really enjoying these new format reviews. I'm currently saving for a new bow and I'm leaning towards either the Hoyt Carbon Defiant or the Halon. Was there a noticeable difference between the 30" & 32" Halon 7 in hold on target and string angle at full draw and how would you rate the Halon 7 in comparison to the Carbon Defiant 31? Thanks in advance.
@seansoutdoors
@seansoutdoors 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I personally like the Halon 7 over the Carbon Defiant 31 that I shot. However, I did not get to try the carbon Defiant with limb stops installed. I think I might like the Carbon Defiant more with the limb stops in to have the rock solid back wall. That is the only deficiency of the Matthews bows, they have a somewhat weak back wall. Other than that they are REALLY nice! If Matthews fixed up the back wall and makes it super solid then I'd probably have them as one of my absolute favorite bows right now.

Yeah, I just assumed last year that they were all set up the same. You don't know what you are talking about the halon have perfect back walls you are moving your hand
@seansoutdoors
@seansoutdoors 6 жыл бұрын
Lol, if you look into it, the word "perfect" and the word "solid" are very different definitions. For someone who may not like a very solid back wall, they might thing "it's perfect" but for someone who doesn't like a somewhat spongy back wall, they might thing "it's terrible". So, for you, the back wall might be "perfect" but it definitely isn't "solid" like a lot of the other bows on the market. Basically, I disagree with you and think you are not on point with your assessment.

I just went back and looked at the playlist for the 2017 reviews, and Elite, BowTech, Xpedition, and Prime were all higher than 8/10. Hoyt, Matthews, and PSE were 8/10 or lower on how solid the back wall was. So, the facts show that you clearly didn't watch "most" of my videos as you incorrectly claimed that I gave an 8/10 rating to most bows, when in fact 4 brands got higher than 8/10 and only 3 got equal or lower.
