To answer your questions: yes Sophia Gennusa did perform opening night but many reviewers caught Milly in previews so they could publish their review the second the show officially opened. In London there are 4 children and then 3 kids ensembles (consisting of 8 characters in each) that rotate due to labour laws. In the US there are no such legal requirements (ie. only one Annie) but the director took the desicion to cast 4 Matildas to rotate here to because having fresh/not tired kids worked

The four matildas are so young, but wow... they have such an amazing public speaking ability.

To all of you who are judging each of the Matilda's. Why dont you, first of all, land a job on BROADWAY at their age. Become as amazing as they are, at their age. Before you judge them. The character Matilda, is a young character. Cant be played by 17 year old. And remember, there are 4 of me! Imagine if you read comments about people hating on you and preaching the others! Think we before you ink!

Cont but they only have one kids ensemble in NY due to budgeting consisting of 8 kids plus 4 swings covering for 2 characters each. Therefore, including the 4 Matildas there are 16 kids working on Matilda in broadway ATM as opposed to the 28 in London

There's 27 kids including 4 Matilda's & 4 Bruce's and three teams of kids I'm in it in London

Exactly how many kids are involved in this show? Seeing that ensemble on stage for the curtain call AND then the interview with 4 MATILDAS got me too wondering about the labor laws and such regarding how often a kid can perform during your standard week. The ttal cast number must be over 20 just for the kids. Anyone know the real number?

There are not that many...not all the kids roles are double cast.

you dont need to be cute onstage cause so much is masked by the theater lights. I've seen a ton of shows where people look night and day different from stage to stage door
