This is great, thanks! My grandfather left me an EMS12 mini maton when he passed this summer. Great to know how to treat it like it deserves!

Great video however.....Lifting Bridge pins with side cutters....nope. The string winder has a little notch purpose built for that.

I have used a plier, but put my finger down as a fulcrum so that I multiply the lifting force and don't hit the timber if it suddenly pops out.

My questions is ... do you have to use this gauge strings? I really don't like that setup (.12 - .53). What would happen if you used lighter gauge strings? I don't mind the heavy higher strings but I use lighter strings on the low end. I don't like to wrestling with big fat low E and A strings. Can you offer any info on strings gauges for the guitar? I fear if I run thinner strings, it won't sound right.

You can absolutely use different gauge strings! The .12-.53's are just what Maton thinks are a good all 'rounder to put on out of the factory (I happen to also like that gauge for myself). The only thing to look out for is if the change in tension affects your neck relief or action. If you're putting on a lighter set, you may find the neck bows back a little more since the strings aren't pulling as hard, which you can correct by loosening the truss rod a hair. Unfortunately on Matons this is a bit of a hassle, as it's located up through the soundhole past the top braces, but they do make a tool for it (I just use an 8mm socket on an extender, and turn it with an adjustable wrench. Otherwise you can take it to any music shop and they can do it pretty quick. Hell, you might even find you don't need to do anything - a lot of guitars I find actually have too much relief, and going down a gauge puts it right in the sweet spot. Short answer: yes! I recently purchased a SRS70c and have dropped down to 10-47's and it plays great , action is slightly lower ( a good thing for me) definitely not as loud but still great tone and better playability for me .

I just went down to 11-52 on my SRS60c and no problems at all. A bit less bass acoustically but not a huge difference

Is a truss rod wrench included when u buy a new Maton guitar?

No, not typically, but you do get a very good quality hard case with each Maton guitar. Edit: You DO in fact get a truss rod wrench when you buy a Maton Custom Shop Guitar.... I just got myself a CS Flatpicker and it came with one.
