This has been probably my favorite SmoshCast so far. I really loved the topics they chose and the flow of conversations. I really liked the section on critical thinking -- I was blessed to grow up in a home and school environment where we were told to learn things in multiple ways. My parents still get all of the major newspapers in the area to cover the biases, and I still remember one of my teachers telling me about how truth is most similar multi-faceted gemstone, where you can only get a good picture of it by looking at many of the faces, so you should learn as many sides as possible. :)

I gained a lot of respect for Courtney around 55:00 because of how much of an open mind she has. Most KZfaqrs (especially those living in LA) are quick to shun the other side of the political debate and ignore the problems with both sides, but she pointed out as well as Ian that there is bullshit on both sides, and part of being an informed person requires that you are skeptical of the things you hear on the media, even if it’s a channel that you typically agree with. So, yeah, Courtney and Ian are cool. +1 respect

But they're not very successful at teaching critical thinking, i would assume. It's more of something to be developed by oneself rather than to be taught. You can't just be like "this is what critical thinking is, so use it more in your everyday lives".

Not sure if this is relevant, but I just really want to say that I had a history teacher who really pushed us to critically think. He was the very first teacher that opened up critical thinking to me and was such a good one. I deeply admired him and I wish more teachers would be like that, since critical thinking is such a good skill and should be something that’s taught more in school (at least here in America).

@@anons.9200 Nah, it can totally be taught! We were shown examples and how the perspective could change the story completely, then taught how to analyze sources' objectiveness by comparing it to other sources and looking into if the author/researcher/whatever would have any reason to skew the facts in one way or another. We'd do it for every paper that required research in every class after learning it and be graded on it. And yes, that's for school, but you get in a habit of thinking critically when you do it a lot and know how big of a difference it makes.

What critical thinking is,how to see through biases,how to not get overwhelmed with an opinion,being open minded to hear the other side of a story etc topics should be discussed to a teen

Please get some of the peeps from College Humor on the podcast! Hear me out. College Humor actually has some pretty striking similarities to Smosh. *1. Both had similar origins around almost the exact same time as more casual comedy coming from a bunch of guys uploading just for laughs* *2. Both later "went corporate" and evolved into KZfaq channels centered around weekly sketch comedy and a small cast of characters* Having similar beginnings is one thing, but the fact that the two channels adapted to KZfaq's evolution in ways that are practically identical to one another is intriguing as heck. *3. Both faced significant business pressure that creatively stifled the channels, and, to some degree, led to the brand's demise* (with Smosh, the whole DEFY debacle; with College Humor, their video "How the Internet is Ruining Comedy" detailed how the monetization crisis and KZfaq's censors were explicitly preventing them from uploading the raunchy kind of stuff they wanted to do) *4. Both ultimately survived these ordeals and found a more creatively permissive new home.* Smosh was just bought by Mythical, and has been given free reign to produce the content it wishes to; College Humor recently released its Dropout platform, and has been in the process of slowly moving its larger content away from KZfaq Both Smosh and College Humor occupy a unique space in KZfaq as the "sketch comedy company guys," in a more organized way than pretty much any else on the platform. Because of these similarities, having Smosh and College Humor guys discuss stuff wouldn't just make for some interesting comparisons; it'd also give a sense of the path forward for Smosh in its post-DEFY era. Also, hearing how College Humor handled the great demonetization drought with Dropout would be interesting in and of itself, especially because of how far of a shift this is from College Humor around 2016 or so, where they'd been just given their own KZfaq Red show. In a way, that's kind of one of the highest endorsements from the platform you could receive, so I think hearing about the migration from that to Dropout would make for a fascinating tale. And at the end of the day, they're just a bunch of all-around funny guys. You'd get along just fine and dandy! *EDIT:* Also, they're out in LA, just like you guys. Having them appear on the SmoshCast would be but a mere drive away. Also also, you almost never see them appear in any other KZfaq channel's videos. They've done collabs with the Try Guys at least once, but that's about it, as far as I'm aware. Having them on the SmoshCast would be one of the rare times we get to see them organically and as a part of that interconnected KZfaq community

I LOVE how much MatPat loves theatre!! He's saying everything us Stagey peeps SCREAM every time they stunt cast Musical movies!! There's SO MUCH talent in the theatre world that is not being seen by more people!!
