We get emails all the time about cars for sale and this time of year we are super busy. This 1940 Ford was offered to us in email, and we turned it down due to lack of time. Well the seller offered to deliver it, so we couldn't say no. What should we do with this 40 Coupe? Cut it up or save it?

In bushland near my street in Tasmania, there's an old 40s Mercury sedan. Like this, it's unsalvageable. Teenage me in the 1980s was fascinated by it. You could discern details such as the (all broken) side windows used to be double-glazed. That car, and this '40 coupe make me think the same thing. Once, somebody walked into a dealership and bought this car new. It was somebody's pride and joy back then. This was the final stop on a road eighty years long.

There used to be a 36 ford sedan wreck,-at Fingal-Tassie,-I got a nice steering wheel of it,-But the Council got rid of the rest of it !!

Rebuilt a simmilar coupe years ago,,, bottom foot of the sheetmetal gone ,,, decided to cut it up a bit,,, put sedan doors on it, rounded the rear window frames, shortened the quarter panels 6 inches,, sectioned the body 2 inches chopped the top 2 inches, channeled over the frame 2 inches,, deleted the running boards , wheel well headers poking out under the front fenders ,,,radiused the wheelopenings,,,, shortened the trunk lid, frenched a license plate pocket in the rear pan,,,, it now looks a bit like a choppd Willis coupe ,,,,

It's a shame but best I think..I usually want all old cars saved and I love 40 fords, but it's maybe just too far gone, and if it's parts help towards saving other 40s then it didn't die in vain... Rob UK

Personally, as rough as it is I would probably try and save it, but then I'm in the UK and 40 Ford coupes are very rare here and very expensive. Having said that, I just got to the part of the video where I saw how bad the frame was rotted out, so maybe not🙃

Shipping containers are terrible for storing cars in. If vents aren’t cut into them there ends up being so much condensation in them it will literally rain inside them especially in humid areas. Good job saving what could be saved, a far better option than it going to the crusher

I've had my '38 Olds for almost 12 years. If it weren't for other '38's being broken down and parted out, then I would be left with pretty much an empty shell and missing half of the car. In the end that shell of a car will be a valuable part of someone's search for that long lost, hard to find, original Ford sheet metal part needed for their cars restoration. One clapped out car gives it's parts and pieces to save on another car in need.

You can find parts still remanufactured if you look hard enough classic industries may have a book what I mean is they may have a catalog on classic vehicles you never know I remember seeing it somewhere if not there's a couple of junk yards in Arizona they may have old-school reproduction parts and original parts

That car was fixable, you can get quarter patch panels, rear fender , door entire floor . The stuff saved are not extremely desirable. The flarhead for instance is prob worth 300 , the front axle 150, the rear 200 to 300 . Never seen a fat fendered cut up like yall cut that thing.
