I think the most important thing as an interviewer is letting the guest speak. Let the guest do the talking and not ask them questions that predominantly lead and direct conversations because it basically pigeon holes what guests can and cant talk about. You have to step back a little and let them be themselves.... This is not always possible however - Actors might not have a lot of time to allow for interviews due to filming or the host might also have other guests lined up and need to speak with before the show ends so it becomes more of a case of _'getting it over and done with'_ rather than just chilling and talking about random shit.

Totally agree. Ali (and his team?) did the homework and really knows the actors’ work. So there is real honesty and respect in the conversation. Love all his interviews.
