They really weren't. Before the bye week, the defense was near the bottom of the league in points allowed and they lost nearly half their games. Several of the games they did win in that period were very close. Shanahan's playcalling and gameplanning was awesome enough to overcome that and the team started clicking towards the end of the season. All the way up until that last quarter where he started making what I'd say were stupid young coach mistakes ... except I've seen other young coaches who are otherwise terrible but wouldn't screw up that bad.
@Autistus2

Javier Pocono Dan Quinn should have stepped up and overridden him much like Bill Belichick does in certain situations. A simple 3 straight HB dives and a field goal would have put them up 11 with less than 5 mins left but the arrogance of Shanahan and weakness of Quinn ensured the Pats got a chance.
@Soundamite

Matt Ryan is an alltime great. He’s so underrated and deserves way more respect. Sb 51 he got the falcons in FG range to go up 11. Stupid Shanahan wanted to throw and really screwed them over.

Soundamite Shanahan lost that whole game for us by allowing the Patriots to control the clock. Ask yourself what the Eagles did differently to beat them. The ESTABLISHED the run. We hardly ran the ball, let alone established a run game. The Pats has the ball for 93 plays NINETY THREE. That’s the most in the history of the super bowl. THAT is why they won.

At least you know he is a good QB. Just not a good coach is all. He def deserves a ring and if he was on a team like the ravens, he would have like 2 rings. He has a super talented roster, but in the end he needs a good coach. He really does. In the NFL, coaching matters.
@TheGeorgeD13
@TheGeorgeD13 5 жыл бұрын
He has a good coach. He's had only one really good offensive coordinator. That matters more than the head coach here. Give him a good coordinator and they'll be able to compete for a title.
@herschelhatcheriv9577
@herschelhatcheriv9577 5 жыл бұрын
George Daugherty compete, but both his head coaches have been bad at clock management. That’s EXTREMELY important. Belichick is the best clock manager in the league. Mike Smith (our former coach) can’t even get a job as an assistant. I hope Dan Quinn learns how to manage the clock.
@netinbra
@netinbra 5 жыл бұрын
It’s not 100% just good coaching though. It is also setting up a culture. Bill Bellichick is beyond just a “good coach” . Having a decent OC or DC is already good enough if you have a mastermind behind the scenes. Bill has set up a culture, a way that makes everything work and fall into place. The Patriots have gone to SBs with different OCs and DCs. So saying that Quinn is a good head coach and that Matt Ryan only needs a good OC to reach SBs is a statement I disagree with. If the head coach is REALLY GOOD and has a hand in every aspect of the game, and teaches these assistant coaches how to do their jobs well, everything should fall into place. For example, Patriots DC left and Bellichick put the assistant coach behind Patricia to take over. And now they are in the SB again with a decent defense. If you are a great head coach and your staff is good enough to do their jobs well, it will work out. But the head coach will always be the brains, the one who puts everyone in place and guides them.

Since 2008 I don’t think the ravens have been that much better than the falcons, maybe in 2009 to 2011 but Ryan wasn’t as good until 2012 and the ravens only won the super bowl that year cuz Flacco balled out in the post season
@netinbra
@netinbra 5 жыл бұрын
Never Sober Could be. But they are a decent organization. Regardless, a better well coached team would have definitely helped him get more rings, because when it comes to skills like QB IQ, decision making, pocket presence, etc.. you name it he got it. This year he played great. If only.... I guess we’ll just play the If only game.

Same with Brady when he lost to the Eagles. Dude had 500+ yards and lost bc his defense let the team down. Very similar games…

Falcons coaching staff deserve this- can someone tell why when the game ends, why did Ryan put on his helmet before going to offer congrats. Did he feel threatened by Pat's fans or his own.

Bro … we the falcons haven’t been the same since the superbowl loss no bullshit !!! Did yall notice after the loss that Matt and Julio were never on the same page again ? Arthur Blank as an owner should engage more on wanting what’s best for the franchise … get us block buster trades , free agents , top 10 draft picks … dimitrioff didn’t do nothin for us … we have Kyle pitts and we don’t even use him !!!!!!!!!!!

The 28 to 3 choke was not as bad as the Yankees choke, up 3-0 to the Sox, never had an issue with the Falcons but I hate the Yankees. The Sox have never been the same and even better the Yankees have never been the same. The Yankees have lost their mojo and the Sox are now the team to beat. Boston is title town.

I like Matt Ryan, he's a very good quarterback, but he blew a 25 point second half lead. No way Brady, Manning or Brees fails to get the one needed scoring drive to win that game. That's the difference between very good and great.

Biggest mental mistake in that game. All he had to do was delay Hightower for a couple of seconds and Matt probably hits Aldrick Robinson for a big gain, if not a TD. At the very least there's no strip sack and Pats don't get a short field.
