Hear ther entire uncensored MATT SKIBA interview at www.DarrenRoseRadio.com
After 20 years as an artist, making music, touring, and amassing an undying worldwide fan base, Matt Skiba has a lot to say about who he works with and the music business. In this riveting, in-depth conversation Matt reveals, for the first time publicly, his recent sobriety and the tools he is using to stay sober. The guys go on to discuss books, film, religion, aging-well, meditation, malt liquor, Matt's ability to write a song in an hour, and yes, even rock stars have tattoos that need covering up. While getting behind the music, literally, Matt tells a cautionary tale about over-sharing with his ex-wife (the experience turned into a great song). It's an open, intriguing look inside the mind and world of one of punk's heroes.

I feel many people, especially gen x'ers and millenials, can easily disregard 12 step programs because they can't accept the idea of powerlessness or a "higher power". I've been doing this close to 5 years and I've never felt brainwashed or that I was "losing" any part of myself through working a program. I honestly take the God and Powerlessness thing with a grain of salt and apply my own philosophy, something which my sponsor encourages. I think the only constant is to not isolate yourself, especially from folks who you can identify with, and to be perpetually aware that you can't control your drug use so it's better to just remain sober from everything and do what you need to do to remain so.

R JN I attend NA, doesn't mean I agree 100% with what their selling. Yes, I'm powerless, yes I have a higher power, no I don't see anything productive to come from telling strangers about my problems. Regardless to my disagreements, I still go 2-3 times a week, because it keeps me off the dope!!

Or maybe we just don't want to pass our selfishness off as , not our fault. If i mess up or do well, it my fault or doing.

No that's just skiba and the 2000's getting less cool. Joining a sold/washed the fuck out shell of blink 182 might be worse than anything he ever did drunk

It's not. Have you seen the teenage "turnt up" culture? I work with people like that.

I literally just told someone out off all the AA stuff, the one “cliche” thing that I actually use is “I’m not gonna drink today” cause I can’t get into all that other stuff no matter how hard I tried. I’ve surrendered or whatever and understand I’m powerless over alcohol. But just telling myself I’m not gonna drink today has worked for the past almost year. And I literally could not function if I wasn’t at least at a .15 bac (which is blackout for some people) before I gave it up. I’d be a zombie and couldn’t think, eat, sleep and have seizures.

You don't have to be "christian" to be sober btw. I dislike most religion especially christianity and I don't drink. I hate the taste and how it makes people. Not that everyone is the same, but alcohol has never been cool to me

@@boywonderofficial1859 he’s not at all lol. He literally says he says that and is a card carrying member for the shock value to people. His mother was a nurse in war, and after what she saw he will never believe in a higher power on either side of it. Pretty cool interview.
