Even gender can be defined in a way their argument is pointless. Gender is the stereotypical behaviour associated with people of a given sex within a culture. They use gender as though it is a universal and devoid of cultural context, the only way we know the Taliban isn't a matriarchy is they presumably have penises. If woman does not consider that in it's definition then it's awfully racist of us to assume they don't identify as women especially since the biological reference is the only one we have across cultures because they have a separate language

The fact that they said they felt attacked and blamed Dr. Phil was hilarious. It was 3 people against Matt Walsh. They had the advantage. They always feel attacked just having a conversation, literally just talking causes trauma. My only issue with Matt is he gave them a victory when he said a female is a person who can have kids, cause they will always bring up women who can't have kids due to a condition or medical issue. He should have said a human who has two X chromosomes.

Technically he didn't say it was someone who could have kids, he said it was someone with "female reproductive organs." He didn't even specify that they have to be functional. It’s so weird they constantly use this argument. The vast majority of women throughout history could have had a child at someone point in their life. I found that argument disgusting, I’ve got friends and a family member who can’t have children and ALL of them feel like they are “broken” or “not a real woman” because of it, and saying that a woman isn’t a woman because of the fact they can’t reproduce just makes them feel worse. For a group of people who want feelings to be considered over facts, who want people to feel safe… they really don’t give a shit about anyone else’s feelings but their own.

True. But the distinction between male and female is a lot more blurry. Because both male and female humans have most of the range machinery. You can have males that don't have a Y chromosome. Biology is very messy and when you speak on the totality of make typical behaviors and characteristics, it becomes a bit hard to distinguish. Even when people don't present a trans, some people are still hard to identify. Because you can be male and more interested in people, have female fat distribution, have a high voice, be prone to emotion, etc... the pushback they did against Matt was nonsensical, yes. But there is a good argument in there somewhere. But gender isn't totally a construct and it is offensive to classical trans people and typically cis people to suggest it is.

Okay. "A woman is up to each individual who identifies as a woman to define" This person is conflating the biological description of a woman with the largely undefined description of how does a woman behave. Each woman is free to decide how she will live and what her likes and dislikes will be, which is true, but that also has nothing to do with the actual definition of what a woman is. To put it simply: A may do B, C or D, but A is not B, C, or D. A woman can fly in a plane, but a woman cannot be a plane. Horses can have the strength of an elephant. Horses are not elephants. There is no room in the definition of horse or elephant for either of them to be interchangeable.

Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, and Shintoists do not believe this, only Christians, but you can change your beliefs. A woman is a adult human female, but you can't change your chromosomes. Everything has a definition, and that definition is based on its characteristics, and what makes it unique from other things or creatures. If anyone can make up a definition based on what they "believe", rather than factual information, then we have no common ground, no mutual understanding off of which to act. If that common understanding can't be established, then nothing will ever be accomplished by interaction. That's the simple reality of life.

One thing about their reaction that strikes me as funny every single time: They claim they were unprepared for the conversation. Guys (gals... whatever), you live the life. You surround yourself with other like-minded people. You are so into it, you're going on national TV to talk about it and display it. How in the ever-loving hell could you feel unprepared to talk about transgenderism? Look, I get that you aren't an expert in all things connected to the issue (Lord help me if I ever get bold enough to sit with other accountants on national TV because I'd be terrified of looking like a know-nothing man-child despite the fact that I'm pretty sure I'm decent enough in my profession), but you have to be prepared to answer stuff like "what is a woman?" when you say "I am a woman". Fine, everyone defines it differently. I'm not asking everyone. I'm asking you. What. Is. A. Woman. When. You. Claim. It? Unprepared? No. Unchallenged in their circles until that day. To claim that they are persecuted (aka challenged) routinely in life and then also claim that they weren't ready for one dude with questions... I just ... I can't understand it.

@deathvalleydruids892
@deathvalleydruids892 2 жыл бұрын
The notion that "gender is a social construct" has a complicated history, but not a very long one. It goes back to France in the late '40s and early '50s, when Simone de Beauvoir popularized the first horribly wrong turn with the line: "One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman." This is in keeping with the fashionable intellectual trend of the day known as "existentialism," based on the work of the man she was in a long-term open relationship with, Jean Paul Sartre. After this first horribly wrong turn, a number of emergent ideological trends split off into a variety of conflicting doctrines, each of which then traveled 10 million miles in the wrong direction down their respective blind allies of social constructivist theories. To skip over the particulars of this complex history, we now have four distinct ideological positions, each of which turn upon their respective definitions of the term "gender." These positions are: the traditional position of biological essentialism, second wave feminism (or 'the TERF position'), trans ideology (which affirms the so-called binary), and Queer Theory (which rejects the binary). Matt Walsh holds to biological essentialism, while the two trans guests hold to Queer Theory. Queer theorists are postmodernists who hold that all definitions, all fixed senses or meanings whatsoever, are oppressive restrictions upon individual freedom. "Gender" is whatever you want it to be. They realize that this makes no sense and they're pleased by this. To make sense is to uphold the structures of the system of cis-heteronormativity. But, as this encounter on Dr. Phil shows, they get stressed out by those who affirm the intelligibility of the real world. This is why they attempt to undermine Walsh's argument by suggesting that his own use of the word "woman" is just as meaningless as theirs. I hold the same position as Matt Walsh, but I think he could make a stronger case if he sharpens his use of language. The gender terms "male" and "female" are adjectives which classify beings by their generic sexual identity. These adjectives are especially useful when we define and classify sexually reproductive animals by their specific sexual identities. For example, the animal we identify by the noun 'doe' is defined as an 'adult _female_ deer.' A natural language like English is flexible enough for us to successfully communicate when we use words like "gender" and "sex" interchangeably, or when we use a word that's traditionally employed as an adjective ("male") as a noun ("straight white male" instead of "straight white man"). I never play the role of grammar nazi, nor can I stand those who do, but I do make a point of speaking with this degree of formal precision on this issue. When the bearded trans activist turned his own question against him, Walsh defined a woman as "an adult _human_ female." When he/she/they/etc. then asks Walsh to define "female," he gets a little tripped up and uses the word "female" again in his definition. Just as it sounds off to define a doe as 'an adult deer female' rather than 'an adult female deer,' so too a woman is 'an adult female human.' Women and does are female mammals, that is, those mammals classified by their possession of the set of reproductive organs required to give birth. And because animals are finite natural beings and not geometrical shapes, they exhibit a wide variety of discernible characteristics, which may include birth defects, severe injuries, or other abnormalities which prevent their reproductive organs from developing or functioning properly. So a "woman" is an "adult female human," regardless of whether or not her reproductive system develops the capacities to conceive and birth a child. That covers what the trans activist says in this encounter. I agree that Walsh handled them with ease, but I think it could be even easier. This KZfaq comment is already long enough for most people to say "oh fuck this" after clicking on 'Read more,' so I'll leave it at this.

The ridiculous thing is that human rights should always be up for debate. If we set human rights in stone 200 years ago, there would be no female suffrage, no African-American suffrage, slavery and indentured servitude would be legal. Its through debate that our rights and privileges evolve over time, hopefully with a strong moral center. Human rights aren't up for debate in places like Venezuela, Cambodia, China, and North Korea, and the state of the average citizen reflects that.

@@zarag4065 Yes.. Linguistic coherence actually matters, so I will not refer to you by any plurality pronouns, nor will you decide how I perceive you. I make my own judgement of you based on your behaviour, your actions and your appearance. And if you're born a man or you're born a woman no amount of mental illness (or fetishes in many cases) you harbour will change the biological reality of you. And no amount of indignant behaviour you display will change how I ultimately choose to address you. You don't get to decide how other people address you. Not even by name. That's a privilege you earn by acting and behaving in a manner that lends people to respect your sovereign humanity enough to not absolutely ridicule you.. Also "the weekend" is a terrible example. Do you presume his family or friends calls him "the weekend" ? You're talking about a stage name of a performer..
