Matt Walsh discusses colonization and how, contrary to what many on the left think, it was a force for good. Walsh also says that anyone who promotes the idea of decolonization "...wants to murder civilians."

I mean, if you are out walking and you see two people fighting, are you justified in pulling a gun on them and robbing them both? also, Walsh is an American and a capitalist - will make a safe bet that his wealth is stolen anyway, but that’s another story maybe

Human zoos, racism, pseudo-academic racial theories, no unbiased legal representation, hate crimes from post-colonial ideology, all the benefits of colonization. Having your kids taken from you and killed by a catholic education system that beat you for speaking your own language, put your community in generational poverty and alcoholism, enabled the creation of gangs, and intentionally putting toxic factories near areas to give the locals poisoned water or asthma. All the benefits.

They can start by making all my food for free, then pay tithing to the king. Live on the breadline while the masters profit. Oh crap, that's what we have now. Neofeudalism is already here, sadly. We just don't notice cause there aren't kings and lords... We got Elons and Bezoses now... The favored ones.. "lords" if you will. They almost got a King though. If Trump could have claimed a crown, he would, and his minions would 100% support it and enforce his right to rule. Feudalism makes a lot more sense to these clowns than democracy ever did. Democracy is a mess. Kingdoms have a sense of stability, it's easy to understand and you know your place. Conservatives CRAVE stability and knowing their place. That's why they're so fond of authoritarians. If they can feel the boot at all time, they won't be scared of people treading on them. I think what the MR crew’s analysis is missing is that the service that Walsh is selling is to help his viewers explain their bigoted views to others or when challenged. This is why he presents both the argument that colonization isn’t a bad thing and we are not colonizers. He is addressing how to respond to the types of critiques that he anticipates his audience members will be confronted with and this is also why his audience tunes in. It’s not simply about being in an echo chamber. It’s also for preparation, to both inoculate against differing opinion (here’s what people are going to say about your beliefs and they’re wrong) and as a coaching for how to haughtily respond to anyone who might challenge their intuitions on these topics. It gives these ridiculous perspectives more weight to the people who use them, for the same reason that repeating a lie makes it more believable.

I mean it's also just a racist generalization of two entire continents. As if Europe saved the Indigenous Peoples from "human sacrifice" when it was like, eight cultures that had been doing it? And baring in mind, that's 8 cultures spanning literally thousands of years. It's completely devoid of any mention of the of different cultures that existed between/before those times, and in various places, where human sacrifice wasn't done. And here's a wild idea: If the Spanish were actually trying to save the Indigenous Peoples from this, they could have achieved this by learning the languages of the Indigenous Peoples, and arming a rebellion of people who opposed human sacrifice. Call me crazy, but murdering and raping millions of people, and trying to utterly destroy ALL cultures (including the ones that DIDN'T do human sacrifices), sounds a lot like it's just genocide.

I grew up in nations "founded" by colonialisation, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia to name a few countries I lived in. They were victims from such policies. These countries wealth was taken away to the Empire under the guise of colonialism. They promised so much to the people but offered nothing in the long run. Whole swathes of land was stolen from the Indigenous community and mined for minerals using very dirty and cheap mining methods that polluted the lands, the rivers and the people living near by. Has Matt Walsh ever travelled to these countries that experienced such political policies?

The "europe as a force of civilizing good" argument has always been hilarious to me. It demonstrates a *total* lack of understanding of European history, for a start. I mean, look at what was going on in Europe contemporaneously with the colonization period. It was the fucking Wars of Religion. Cromwell. The St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre. Sweden. Oh my god fucking Sweden in this period. Everybody looks at how nice and pleasant the Nordic states are now and just assumes they've been like that forever, but man, Sweden in prior to the Great Northern War was a monstrous war machine bent on murdering every Catholic it could find. Of course, that's somewhat understandable if you look at what the Catholics were doing at that point. Point being, while Europe might not have been practicing 'human sacrifice' as such at the time, they were busily depopulating Germany, hanging children from every other tree, and setting fire to each other's churches based on how many fingers the local priest used to bless people. The only reason the Wars of Religion calmed down was because Europe exported the violence...which worked for a while until the French started experimenting with offensive forms of government.

Literally had this conversation with a family member just before Indigenous People's Day when I confronted them about their derision of the renaming of Columbus Day. I kept trying to talk about the genocide and slavery while they pivoted to the benefits of western civilization (and Christianity), how indigenous tribes were not peaceful with one another, and how Africans sold people into slavery. I kept saying: "sure, but what about the genocide?" I never got a direct or honest response, just deflection.
@rileymachelle4088
@rileymachelle4088 10 ай бұрын
That's so stupid, especially the thing about not being peaceful. As if western civilization was anything remotely close to peaceful back then (or today for that matter). Next time you should tell them exactly what Columbus did, like the actual specifics of the horrors he committed. It becomes a lot harder to justify when you actually go into the gory detail. One of the ships Columbus was leading sunk or whatever, and one of the native tribes actually helped save his men. The first thing Columbus thought to do? Enslave them... there's even a quote in his actual journal saying something about how 50 of his men could control 300 of the natives. So he did enslave them, and if a slave didn't meet a quota, he'd have their hand caught off and tie it around their neck as a message to the others. There's some really good Christopher Columbus videos that go into this stuff and even take excerpts straight from his journal, all in like 10 minutes. Show your family member one of those

Hopefully this is the beginning of the end for him. He made a career on one topic and what is a woman, and sooner or later, it is going to run out steam I can say this, when I was a teenager in the 1990s, (and I was NO fan of his) Rush Limbaugh was everywhere. Now, love him or hate him, he knew how to do the radio style show that made up most morning shows of the time. He knew how to do sound bytes, voices, impersonations, one liners and all the stuff that made morning shows take off.He was bascially a right wing shock jock that knew how to engage. Matt Walsh, and a lot of these modern day ones, don't have that. They have zero talent, zero ability to be really engaging and mainly just have platforms where they blandly blabber how much they hate everything. It is not a formula for success or longevity. Sure, he will probably always have his fans that are ready to troll Twitter, and ask what a woman is at the drop of a hat, but he is not going to have the staying power that he seems to think. One trick ponies, finally become boring. Of course, Matt Walsh is not smart enough to realize that. He is not funny, he is not appealing, he just sits there and smugly runs his mouth. He literally said colonization was a a force for good and it brought the rule of law, public health, human dignity. Thats an insane take. Thats implying all colonized people were savages who didnt have dignity, law or public health and that colonization was some violence-free assimilation that didnt involve mass murder and erasure of cultures.

Frantz Fanon would agree with him. Decolonisation is a violent bloody affair because the colonises don’t want to let go. So, if you’re going to colonise a place, you should understand the risk and take personal responsibility for what might happen. This is just another case of the right wing, not understanding what personal responsibility is and cause and reaction. They have a terrible understanding about how the world works.

At the same time the Aztec Empire was killing people, the Spanish Empire was offering Jews up as sacrifices to their god. In a less cheeky tone, I'd add that the victims of the Aztec Empire traded one cruel master for another.

@@aliamjon2550 Why don't you actually look up the history of how the Spanish treated their indigenous subjects? No, their lives did not improve, they traded being the victims of Aztec raids for being Spanish slaves. As for rape, let's just say the first Mestizos were not the products of love. And if conquest is good because you get to mind rape the victims and force them to adopt your religion, I guess you are a fan of the early history of Islam.

In Karen Blixen's book she writes about witnessing a Kikuyu court proceeding where a child accidently killed another child with a gun. The trial was meant to appropriate the correct amount of goods to compensate the family who has lost a child and to bring the other child back into the community. It is quite a contrast to European court proceedings with public punishments and imprisonment for stealing food.
