I vote for the gym videos. Mainly because they are creating drama where none exists. They intentionally put themselves in a position to be observed and then pretend to be outraged at the observation.
@cvn6555

They wear their underwear and preen about the gym. Yes, they are usually attractive, but they are doing it for attention and to cause trouble for any man that looks in their direction. Doing it precisely to catch someone looking at them. What do they expect when dressed like that? Totally avoid girls like this at the gym and any one of them that is recording their workout.

The next videos will be elementary school teachers eating candy in front of kids and then yelling at them when they look. Put the candy away, stop dressing at the gym like it's a strip club.

My favourite is the woman at the gym, at about 2am. She sets up her camera and goes into a display of undressing, keeping her eyes on a young man. He passed a momentary glance at her, and she asked if he "needed anything". Unbeknown to her he worked there, he approached his boss, which resulted in her being asked to leave and her membership cancelled. So satisfying!

100% the worst example of attention W**** i've ever seen the problem was never what these women wear it's that they are deliberately trying to get attention then scream at people or insult people for noticing it's gotten so bad in many places it caused alot of people to stop going to the Gym because they didn't want to deal with that harassment in other places it lead to a brilliant policy called no recording in the Gym

To be fair, I understand the depression one - BUT I also agree that people overmedicalise a lot... Real depression is a thing, a medical illness, but it's not the same as just feeling sad/down. It's not a syndrome - it's a sickness. It's marked by a serious decline in neurological and cognitive function - but it is something people can recover from. One thing these tiktokers won't admit is that recovery from actual real depression IS hard and takes time. It's an ongoing process, a thing you have to fight every day, But you do it. Because if you have ever experienced the sickness that is real depression and you start to see a way out - you never want to let it have a foothold on your life again. Even when it's hard you'll get up, you'll tidy up, you'll go outside because you know deep down that while no part of you wants to do these things, if you sit in your feelings you won't get any better. The hard choices are the key to improving your health. Depression is a real thing and it's disappointing that tiktok's "mental health experts" have reduced it to a mere feeling of sadness or apathy. It's more than that and requires tough work to get better.
@carolineyall
@carolineyall 6 ай бұрын
True. But there is also chronic depression which is often treatment resistant (which I have). I can’t describe how hard I’ve tried to use the coping skills I’ve learned, build resiliency, and move on, and I’ll finally find something that works and then it just doesn’t anymore. My depression is biological and, from the neuroscience research I’ve done, is likely due to genetic abnormality in the amount of activation of neurons in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. As for the TikTok brand of depression and what is represented in media, it’s totally inaccurate. As you said, feeling down or apathetic for a little bit is not depression and representing or even diagnosing that as depression takes away from the true diagnosis and also invalidates the experiences of those who have true Major Depressive Disorder.

The solution to the gym-girl thing is easy: Every time a women starts filming herself in a gym, _everyone else_ should start filming her too. Break out your own camera, post it on Facebook, Twitter, KZfaq. If they have the right to film you, you have the right to film them. That stunt will stop almost instantly....

I totally understand that when you are really depressed or anxious, it can feel like you literally can't move. I have experienced that. But the key word is FEEL like. You can make yourself get up and do it. There's nothing actually stopping you. And maybe it sucks, but it has to get done. It will make you feel better, and a victim mentality is so destructive, not only to you but also to society.

I had such severe depression in high school that most of the skin on my body began flaking off every day, the flesh on my back turned black and purple, and I spent hours every day staring out my third-floor condo thinking about jumping off. I even tried tying my hands to the bed to stop myself from scratching but it didn't work. I had severe chronic eczema since I was three, and had been suicidal since I was ten and it just got really bad in high school. I had to cover two-thirds of my body in Aveeno and Vaseline every three hours just to stop the pain, cut my nails short, and couldn't even wear any undergarments since it got so bad. Every single movement I made hurt. I STILL went to my part-time job after school, even got my grades up during that time, and kept my room very clean. My high school was very competitive and nationally ranked. Me and my family never trusted antidepressants even though the doctor strongly recommended it, and I pulled through on my own. If there's a will there's a way, and there's a difference between can't and won't. Anything else is an excuse.

One of the most annoying things with Tik Tok to me is the narcissism in the videos. For example, the common videos now are the "What I Got for Christmas" videos, where the kids are showing off the utterly INSANE amount of things they were gifted for Christmas. Like most of their "About Me" videos, it never really is About Me. It's any chance to show off or "keep up with the Jones's". And it's really cringey to see from high schoolers.

4:39 I think you are wrong about this one Matt. Depression is not just a feeling of: "I don't want to", but more like, a massive negative force pushing back on everything you do. You could say that the negative force is laziness, but I think that would be an unfair characterisation. I believe it to be something else, that feels much stronger than that. I can't describe it because the feeling is a mixture of a physical sensation in the head and a mental exhaustion. I guess a good way to put it into perspective is to say: You don't have the energy to imagine nice things when you are depressed, or notice nice smells.

Totally agree. Matt is fortunate not to have experienced a major depressive episode. If he had, he would not have named that video as his “worst.” Whike I disagree with the language in the depression ticktock, I agree with the sentiment. It always annoys me slightly when I see a TikTok of someone in their early 20’s, living in a house way nicer than mine and apparently not even working, eating better than I can, etc. Because it’s not a day in the life of a 22 year old…maybe a day in the life of a 22 year old with millionaire parents that’s never going to have to worry about money, obviously. There’s no average 22 year old who’s life should be better and have better things in it than I do, at twice their age after building a career and things like that. a 22 year old should have nothing, because they’ve earned nothing yet.

And like other people like themselves, they are self absorbed in themself, nothing wrong there, but it's clear to the 'crowd' when someone among them is not like them and it seems lindsey is the 'other' at the moment. Most people deal with their stress and depression in different ways, being hyper fixated on something like cleaning is a destressing mechanism that people with ADHD use, I know because I do it all the time. When I'm extremely stressed I will pick up a washcloth, grab a garbage bag, find the vacuum, etc. Whatever activity that is different to what stresses me becomes my fixation and it 'destresses me' But I'm self aware enough to know that not everyone is a clean freak when the fixation hits them.
