It’s all about context. If you go in filming a video like this you have no context of why any of these movies are actually scary. No build-up, etc. on top of this, Matt is filming this while knowing full well he is going to be jump scared so he can brace for it. I bet that if any of us were in his situation, we would have similar reactions. It’s different than watching a movie itself. Honesty the whole idea of the video is invalid. Still entertaining tho.

The theatre ambience makes a difference, too. Giant movie screens and surround sound are used subtly in theatres whereas you aren't really going to get the same effect in the privacy of your own home, especially if you're watching it on some crappy laptop or TV screen. This being said, none of these horror movies, with the exception of maybe Sinister, are actually scary or even remotely creepy, especially that Stephen King shitheap with the clown in it. I agree with Matt on that.

A good scare isn’t about jump scares anyway though. They’re cheap replacements for writing a legitimately scary story. BOOKS can be the scariest material out there without the benefit of any visual or audio media and no possibility of jump scares, just good story and atmosphere. I support the continued ridicule of jump scares until movies give up using them as a crutch.

@@fattyjaybird7505 nah, my cousin who's early twenties did the same with evil dead rise (made jokes about random stuff the whole time and never really gave it a proper go). Thing is she's not a horror fan but we were watching it because my other cousin hadn't watched it and really wanted to. It completely ruined the experience for both of us cause I know she would've loved it had it just been me my sister and her without the shitty jokes and commentary. Same thing with the show midnight mass. Like yes I recommended it to her but she wanted to watch it with me and then it was around 1 am and both of her parents were waiting for me to leave and she made me skip all the 'boring parts' which really meant she made me skip all the beautiful metaphors and slow paced emotional scenes for the action. It just ruined the movie and show for me even though I'd watched these things before. I vowed to never watch anything serious with her after that, just movies like barbie and dungeons and dragons, comedies basically.

The whole point is you have to choose to immerse yourself and if you don't, you'll just have a shitty time.
