I don't understand the criticism and the 'discrimination against backline players'. The exact same rules apply to both teams on the field. If the one team decides to have more forwards on the bench than the other, it is their prerogative to do so. Nothing stops the other team from setting up a similar bench.

Unlike many here, I see Williams' point around safety but think he could've presented his argument better - saying backs have been discriminated against is bound to attract criticism, (and rightly so). Sports teams are always looking for an advantage and if the rules allow it, it's fair game...

Ireland?(i forget who in one of the 6 nations games) earlier this year went 6/2 then had several back injuries and everything went to custard because of the risk they chose to take not having coverage.
