Welcome to the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC300, the all-new GLC to be exact, and this thing is phenomenal. Yes, it has been left with a single model in Australia (for now) - the 300 variant - but we were left shocked at how good the new GLC is. It might not look hugely different, but the interior and way it drives is arguably best in class. So what is this whole package about? Let's talk about that in today's review!

$113k is insane ! Before COVID I picked up top specced brand new GLC250 for $79k driveaway (made to order). Merc make great cars but lost the plot with pricing especially with their online model (which still has incredibly clunky and horrible web interface to browse cars).

This is modern time new generation get with the program. No one told you to buy the Benz you chose to let everyone have their moment of truth and keep your negativity to yourself. There is no doubt that this is an amazing car, it looks awesome. Keep in mind the merc dealer network in Australia just lost their class action against Mercedes, so expect instability in after market sales and warranty support while dealers adjust or exit to manage dropping sales from the price promise approach. Not a great time to buy a new merc, see John cadogan’s take the situation for more context. it’s quite interesting and has ramifications for all car dealerships.

Absolutely agree! But moving to an agency platform, in a Mercedes era of “cheapness” and constant unreliability ?? Mercedes have already lost their Cache, and it will only get worse. … I’de feel less anxious in a SsangYomg😮,

Good review. I've had mine for a week, and while I don't have all the bells and whistles (I'm in the U.S., and didn't have the luxury of waiting for a custom build), this review is spot on. I do find that the wireless Apple Car Play is a little buggy, so I disabled it on my phone and just use wired. I am not sure what the interior sound is called, but I'm told that there is a microphone in the exhaust so it is more "amplified natural" than "fake" sound. I was told that by the dealership, so take it for what it is worth. It gets similar fuel economy to my wife's Lexus NX300h, which is a full hybrid car. I just took mine up in the mountains on nearly glare ice with a little snow on top and managed to get up a 10-12% one lane dirt (with no dirt exposed) track with no issues. I used the descent speed control to come down and it was flawless. It absolutely out-performs the NX AWD in the snow and off-road. I haven't driven a Quattro system, but have heard they may be marginally better, but how can you improve on "excellent."

Maybe I'm getting old, but I'm honestly sick of how Mercedes keeps packaging everything with the AMG line. Bring back the old 'Elegance' line, with walnut wood and beige leather. I'm sure this is a great car, but I can't get the spec I want. Now, where did I put my walking stick?

Absolutely right I think Volvo XC60 and Audi Q5 are better than AMG spec Mercedes GLC anytime .

I too miss the walnut, but ended up opting for the AMG Line over the wood with very nice orange seats (only two options in my dealership when my 2011 SL finally became impractical). I like the "metal mesh," though, with the AMG Line. As far as the walking stick, behind the driver's seat is where mine fits :D :-).

You are so easily excited 😊. When I tried the new GLC I was very disappointed. Door handles are in cheap scratchy plastic, seat controls have no feedback, no physical controls, just a big screen which is easy and cheap way for manufacturers as all updates are in software but so impractical and annoying, seats are uncomfortable, in the rear my head was hitting the roof, the list goes on and on. Exterior looks very nice, I need to admit but inside is a show stopper.

What are your views on ambient lighting? Hope you know mercedes benz australia is no more giving ambient lighting plus which means no lighting on vents center console and door strip's. Do you think it's still worth to buy one? Also they are not explicit about it even when they are using the cars with ambient lighting plus for promotions. It's at 9:40

That option in sportmode os called in German: 6U0 Sportlicher Motorsound"and this means nothing less then: "sporty motorsound"

I only partly get the criticism in all the foreign reviews about the rear USB ports missing. Yes, in the standard configuration they are not installed and I agree they should be standard, but at least here in Germany (and I guess in Europe) you can at least order an optional USB Plus package for 357,00 €. The description is: With a total of 6 USB-C ports and 2 12 V sockets, you and your passengers can easily charge mobile devices. All USB ports in the vehicle are fast-charging capable. You can also play data such as your stored music into the MBUX multimedia system via devices connected at the front. Components 2 USB-C ports in the center console Fast-charging capability suitable for data transfer 2 USB-C ports under the front center armrest fast-charging capability suitable for data transfer 2 USB-C ports for the rear at the center armrest fast-charging capable Isn't this available in other geographies? Similarly there is an optional THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control system with 4 climate zones which enables the rear passengers can set the climate comfort to suit their personal requirements. You can set the temperature, air distribution and air volume separately in 4 zones.

Here in Europe, there is a "USB Plus package" for extra USB-C (2 in the back where you were sujesting). Again, in Europe, my 400e has a few issues... and It was delivered without the LEDs in the 5 air-vents, dors, ...etc... ne refund!! (I'm shocked too)

Very impressive, but that all piano black console would be ruined within a week of normal ownership. Don't get me started on the smudges all over that main screen..!

The semi-conductor shortage is very much still “a thing.” Many countries have put tariffs and regulations on China, which is the number one exporter for the components needed for semi conductors and the product themselves. China is supposedly withholding them in retaliation. And the reason there is no USB port in the backseat is because it’s an optional feature you have to pay extra for the upgraded USB package.

The new model has actually got a spare wheel now ! But go for the strip club vibes, vinyl seats, haptic crap or just buy a base model Macan which drives better and has better resale ?

Depends if you value sporty driving dynamics (Macan) or Luxury (GLC300). I love the Macan but the amount of options to get it near the GLC is insanely expensive

@@CarSauce At least you can select the options you want. On the GLC it’s the enhancement pack or nothing. I spent 10 months with MBUX and couldn’t wait to leave that behind. The UI impresses in the showroom and on a test drive (thinking you will get used to it) but it’s just plain annoying in day to day use.

Nice SUV the only issue in the US is the unavailable 20 inch Continental Eco Contact 6Q tires. Two flats one repairable. Dealer removed one from a new SUV. Mercedes Corp still terrible in reference to.a resolution on these tires. Ordered a AWD but they put on Summer tires that are not sold in the US. Will be filing a law suit within the year. Mercedes customer service is still horrible in my opinion. My next SUV will be a Lexus!!!!!

Well, it’s a “lovely” car, but if you use your head… it’s a rather “cheap” SUV in terms of engineering and quality. MB aren’t what they used to be, well behind Audi and BMW now.

Seriously Mercedes Benz are nothing like they used to be in the 1980s-1990s. There is no way I would buy a modern Benz. They have become too mainstream & cheap like everyone else. They fall apart after about 3-4 years. And I have to deal with them in my workshop, Pain in the rear end. Overpriced junk if you ask me. Go buy a Lexus or Mazda CX 60. You are paying 💰💰💰for the three pointed star. Which is sadly a shadow of its former glory.

So true. In the 1980s any Benz on showroom floor was a marvel of engineering. Now a KIA is almost as good as a Benz at a third of the price.

I’ve owned the new and have had the old but the Benz is still one of the most comfortable cars you can drive. I just added the 2023 coupe to my collection of cars & i get endless compliments almost as many as i get when I drive my Porsche. Ijs unless you’ve purchased one within the last 8 years you really shouldn’t be speaking on the Benz portfolio.

@@secretharris9560 I have owned several Mercedes Benz models right up until last year. It is my personal opinion that they are not as good as they used to be. I’m a mechanic & I drive my vehicles quite hard & they just didn’t hold up as well.

“Just give us more choice” These pricks just changed their dealerships to an Agency model, so if you thought they were screwing you over with their offerings… they’re screwing YOU! and the dealer over even more so now on profit. Run, run run, MB declared years ago that their focus was technology. Its showing now with their “perceived quality” and lack of mechanical reliability. On top you have their “locked down” vehicle diagnosis and parts coding. Mercedes can’t even be bothered to fit a manual boot release (not a passenger safety release) but a manual boot release at all… FULL STOP!… that’s how careless they’ve become!

Picked up my brand new X254 GLC300 in August 2023, two weeks later and it's back at the dealership. Poor build quality. Would exercise caution if you're looking at this car.

Sorry, I just don't get why everyone seems to rave about these Merc interiors - they look so over the top and just really tacky. Horrible! Those screens look awful and will age very badly (like flares from the 70's).
