@@George_Sumter dude crazy enough, not long after this post I started a small online coffee company that focused on community education and bringing new people into the craft coffee world, and then when COVID hit, and community events stopped being a thing, we created a retail coffee series that highlights talented coffee roasters and producers from around the US. I started doing things I loved and spreading curiosity and now I've got a side hustle. Hoping to make it my full time gig one day soon! www.upstatecoffeecollective.com

Best one yet for me. Posed the question “can a company survive without social media?” to some FB friends. Made me think on how companies did it before social media. Also are people relying to heavily on social media and missing out on other avenues... Love when more questions come to mind after listening to a podcast.

I relate so hard to the "names don't matter" bit. Being in bands my whole life has made me acutely aware of how much they really don't matter when it comes down to it. If you make good music, people are going to listen - regardless of what you happen to be called.

Great episode! I completely agree with what you said about replying to emails and messages. It might just be a small thing for you but it has a big impact to the person that reached out. So, thanks for replying to my email last week! And in regards to the advertisement, I listened to an episode of Tim Ferriss podcast a few weeks ago. It was the first episode I've ever listened to and in the beginning he talked about the sponsors for almost 10 minutes. When he finally finished I was so pissed that I turned it off and haven't listened to another episode since. I don't mind ads but that's not the way to go.

Your content is on F. I. R. E. In the best way I mean - don’t worry, my ears haven’t been harmed. I took a year long social media detox this past year where I deleted all my socials; KZfaq, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. I have to say, it was fantastic and definitely life changing. It’s weird at first to transition from being completely immersed in this ego fulfilling “social” algorithm to then not. Despite not thinking I’ll get back to the other platforms I’ve recently gotten back onto the KZfaq train and have surrounded myself with some really quality content. Creators like you have given me not only inspiration but also entertainment and I’m truly grateful for the ones where it’s 100% apparent that they overflow with God given talent. Keep doing what you’re doing Matt! You’re making the world a better place. Also, this episode was top notch and much love from Oklahoma. P.S. Your name rox!

Hey Matt! About social media and social media detox, I just realized and came out with this thought: social media is like food. If you eat fast food once in a while it isn’t going to screw up your health, diet etc. However if you start consuming it with regularity probably you will start gaining weight; going even further you can start having serious health problems, same applies with social media. We are social beings and we weren’t made up to spent 4/5 or more hours a day looking down at a phone. That’s my point of view on social media. Btw i’m doing the social media detox, I just didn’t quit on youtube because it is good when it is to see channels like yours that make me question and think. Best luck on your channel (and projects) I love it.

Cody, my man! We don't know each other, but I've watched a few of your videos and really appreciate the thoughtfulness and care you're putting into your content. There's something infectious about your personality, but you already knew that. Try to find that balance, especially while you're on the "rise" (I saw that YT bump 😉). It's soooooo tricky not getting caught up in all the metrics, especially when those metrics are working in your favor. Try to remind yourself why the heck you started doing what you do in the first place and use that as your compass moving forward. You didn't start creating videos because you wanted more subscribers, you did it because you wanted to inspire and motivate people. I realize I'm now giving you a completely unsolicited pep-talk via a comment, but, I feel like you're the type of guy who would appreciate the real-talk. Love what you're doing, just make sure you're focusing on taking care of yourself and not sacrificing your life for abritrary leveling up 💪🏼😎

At 27:40, I felt the same at night couple weeks ago. Lonely, vulnerable, even scare. I couldn't sleep. Lucky for me, the phone didn't help so I had to be there, at that moment, with myself and accepted that feeling, stayed calm and went through it. Quite a fascinating experience.

I really enjoyed this podcast- Jason is a really inspiring person, and taught me that I don't need social media to promote my channel. I totally agree that social media can become the next addiction. I actually did quit facebook about a year ago, but made a new account within the last month to promote my channel. I know I need to handle this and remain in control, only using it to post things. I hate the feeling of scrolling through the feed- I never am happy with myself because it turns into more time than i would like to spend there.

Ok i know this video is old, but I relate to the topic about how getting feedback from others who aren’t in the creative area can be dangerous. I started sharing my idea about a KZfaq channel with my mom and now all she wants to talk to me about relating to my dream is how certain kinds of videos make a lot of views, and those videos don’t even relate to my true interests. It got to the point to where she said she would get my a dog or a cat because pet vlogs are very popular and I drew the line, because if I wanted a pet i want to love it as my child, not as a product I can milk money and views off of. My take away is too only post things I enjoy, not stuff that can make profit. :)

I came off from a few of the mainstream platforms. Twitter wasn't much use, instagram is great, but I logged out of my two accounts for a while and left my work one logged in. Facebook...I don't know, it has it's uses from time to time. KZfaq, bbest platform ever in the world regardless, it it the one app I use daily. any other apps I barely use on my phone, cause of the bigger platforms, but closing some doors, will actually open new doors. I tell ou one thing, the apps and content you use, is ALL IN YOUR HANDS!!!!!! you, yourself is in control of what you see and listen to. don't blame social media apps, because of the actions you take online becomes your nightmare or addiction, you did it yourself.

Success at the cost of health or personal value 8s nothing short of FAILURE. all of us who have tried to work 14 hour days and sprint through the long distance race that is life know this. I can, finally in my life, say honestly : I'd rather pay my bills, get by and have a life than be "super successful". My health matters more to me than my bank account.

Gary Vee's a different kind of animal. His style of hustle is so abrasive because it's all he knows and it flies in the face of a lot of people who've never worked that hard. I'll never forget a video of his where he showed someone his phone and played audio of loud, noisy traffic and said he uses that to fall asleep. He tried meditating with someone on his podcast and he bailed in seconds. His brain is in overdrive 24/7. I think it's important to consider what your own limits are and not try to stretch them to those of people like Gary's because you'll overexert yourself, like Jason was saying early in this episode.
