Nice space. I've been forced into home office over the past two years. I loved going to the office at work. The company I work for has an amazing campus. It was the best. I didn't have dedicated office space at home. We have a severely disabled special needs child at home, I couldn't get any work done in the house. So I added a structure for home office space in the yard, connected to the house by the deck. Worth it. 200 square feet of man cave/office space. It's my church. Same concept as yours: lots of windows, everything painted bright white, the ceiling is natural wood, the floorboards are bright colored wood tiles. Glad you have this setup for yourself Matt.

Thanks Matt! (Easy to say as son is Matt also). Great ideas, smart design, and very affordable. Best yet is the timing is perfect. I want to semi-retire soon and see what I can do with my photography hobby and try to take it more seriously. We are turning our "playroom" slash office into a brighter more open space that I can spread out in. One of the other rooms for the kids will my my wife's woman cave. Love the idea of the work bench (inspired). I'm about as organized as you so sounds perfect and I can hide everything I have no idea where it goes....

I just stumbled on your video. Really nice workplace. It's a lot different than the very trendy matte black type (note: to each is own, nothing wrong with matte black). Great to see that it is accessible to your family all day long. This is the one thing which wouldn’t work for me: you know 'Hammy' from 'Over the hedge'? Well, we share the same attention span 😆

Congrats on the baby and sorry to hear about your mom, Matt. Love the video and I share a similar philosophy on the space. My 5 and 4 year olds color and play with Legos in my office often when I’m editing and doing other work. I’d also love to hear about the iMac as well, as I’ve been debating the move back to iMac from a Macbook Pro (pre-M1). Finding myself to be indecisive with waiting to see what the M1 iMac Pro will be like, getting the new M1 Macbook Pro, or the iMac. Peace, hope you and the family are doing well!

your home office is really an inspiration ! I love that natural light and the white walls. it create a really nice "mood" to focus and work and stay connected. Also, as I'm considering switching from a MacBook to an iMac too, I'm really interested into what you would have to say about your new iMac. I was thinking of waiting for an iMac with M1 pro but, I'm kinda lost into considering M1 or waiting for M1 Pro on iMac, or looking to 2nd hand iMac 27". thanks you for your video !

So I paid a lot for my 2019 16" MacBook Pro, I upgraded everything I could from the base model MacBook Pro. I walked into Apple with it and traded it in for the base $1699 model. So not the cheapest base model, but nothing upgraded. Right off the shelf. I'm editing 4K 10bit footage from my SL2-S in Final Cut Pro, with color grading and adjustments applied, and it's playing back great. I've noticed maybe twice where I've seen a dropped frame or something when playing back certain things in the timeline. Maybe. I'm also retouching 96MP files in Lightroom CC (removing dust in film scans) and it's not "lag free" or anything, but it's super fast. Faster than my MacBook Pro would have been. When I'm doing other normal adjustments aside from retouching, it flies through it. And Adobe doesn't have a great track record of optimizing things for macOS so I didn't expect it to be that great. All that to say, stuff like this in a base model computer at $1699 is just crazy. If I were still making a living shooting weddings and commercial video, that sort of stuff, I'd probably spend the extra money on maybe a new M1 Pro/Max MBP and work off of a monitor. Or wait for that M1 Pro/Max to come to an iMac. But now, I'm just shooting personal projects and these KZfaq videos and for those needs, the M1 iMac honestly feels like it's more than capable. Bonus points for just being so enjoyable to look at. I love the design, I love the display for its size and resolution, I love the white bezels that just kinda fall off the edge and blend into the wall behind them. Sorry for a whole review in a comment but I hope that helps. 😅

Congrats on the new baby! I really like the idea of putting wheels on the desk. But considering the amount of stuff I've got plugged in my computer, I've got no idea about how I could pull this off... (Monitor, speakers, webcam, condenser mic, 2 hard disks, 1 hard disk docking station, 1 scanner, 3 printers, 1 label machine, tablet, card reader... I'm probably forgetting something)

I have some old videos on my channel from using the Epson V600 that might be helpful! I'm scanning with a digital camera now, photographing the negatives on a light table and then inverting the negative in the edit. Pros and cons to each method, maybe the video will still be helpful.

Hi Matt ! Your home office is really great !! I wondered whether an iMac would be fine for photo post processing. I've heard it's too glossy and "perfect", I mean the print will never be as good as the picture on the screen. What's your opinion on that point ? I have two little boys that rely on me and I’d die if I ever let them down. Personal question but how do you handle health insurance being self employed?

This is a pretty solid little workbench. While once you figure out how it comes together, it is physically Easy to assemble kzfaq.infoUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh by yourself. But the diagrams explaining the steps are really pretty bad. I could not get the handle pins in all the way despite multiple attempts, so I just used a screw I had on hand for the 2nd handle. I could not get the first pin in further or pull it back out. You are supposed to hammer it in, but I had no leverage and the handle is plastic and I did not want to risk breaking it. I will get a lot of use out of the bench because of the convenient size and height. It does fold up nicely for storage. They even explain how to fold it so you don't get pinched...that is important!
