I was "stuck" on Matthew 5:3 this morning & came in search of a sermon. It seems most just glaze over this very powerful, lifechanging verse. Such a great message. Thank You Father that I am SO 'poor' - I can do and have nothing without Jesus!!

My hands were so full with being a nurse… I was a hospice nurse the last 6yrs… and things has turned belly up… into corporate corruption… ppl don’t have appreciation for nurses and the sacrifice they make to be away from their families to be available to them in their time of need. I’ve been persecuted in every way with this profession… I am so broken that all I can do is cry. Satan has stripped me of all I could ever do for myself. It’s total surrender… I can’t go on… the profession makes me physically, emotionally ill. My hands needed to be empty. Hands 🙌🏾 They are so empty right now. Not being able to see, plan or figure out where to go next for resources… Is exactly where I need to be to focus on my one true source and his purpose for my life. All are mine! The kingdom is mine!

Matthew 5:1-3 Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them. He said: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Thank you, JESUS, for this timely message! Your timing is always perfect. Thank you for this servant of God. Please continue to bless him and use him as he shares your Word with us. I live in Miami, but I would love to go to Ontario and visit this church one day. I know we are the body of Christ no matter where we are, but I feel like I am part of this congregation.

Things that stood out to me from the sermon: Blessed are those who are destitute of self... There's a blessed condition that is connected to the undertanding that we have nothing to offer. Realizing our spiritual bankruptcy. We tend to see ourselves in a self-important light. Church of Laodocea, what they thought of themselves vs. how God saw them. Their ability to see themselves was tainted. You have nothing, and by not seeing that you have nothing, you are at risk of losing everything. A broken and contrite heart (Psalm 51:17) is something God does not despise. Empty hands for God to fill. He has given us the kingdom.

You know, Pastor Paul, I don't think I ever before fully understood Verse 3. In fact, I know I still don't FULLY understand it. It's too wonderful and too frightening at the same time. This is some heavy-duty stuff - a lot to chew on, digest. It's hard to divest oneself of 'self' - we are all so self-centered. So prideful - and over what? Nothing! All that we possess comes from God - as Jesus told Pilate! God can't work with a prideful heart, that's for sure. And that is why this is so frightening: pride is always dogging us, making us think we are better than we truly are - and thus preventing us from receiving God's good blessings for us. Yet the verse is so wonderful at the same time: if I can ask the Lord to give me this spiritual understanding of my true standing before him, all of the spiritual blessings of the kingdom are mine! I want them!! Lord, please help me to understand heartfully the true dimensions of my spiritual poverty because I want your kingdom! Help me to want it more than ANYTHING. Thank you, Pastor, for a message I will certainly reflect on.

Great job of explaining the road to true conversion. Too many times preachers/pastors leave out bringing the knowledge of exactly why we need a saviour. By bringing a realization to the person's conscience of how they have broke God's perfect laws. And God demands perfect justice. Then the person can only stand in front of God guilty and without anything to bring to God for payment of their sins. The wages of sin is death. They are spiritually bankrupt. Once this happens the person has arrived at the first Beatitude for he is poor in spirit.

Pastor Paul, would realizing I have nothing, be the same as loosing my ego?? The all evil ego! ha ha I have been working on that for a long time.

Is poor in spirit when one says I’m nothing without God? Coming to the Father empty handed so he can fill my hands with His ability by his power. Having no self reliance?

No it's not fun, but when you get on the other side it can lead to a deep sense of gradatude. Knowing you have nothing but he loves you and wants a relationship with you irragaurdless.

Re: hippie movement . Sad that a rich culture did not instruct their children to minister to the world in a Christian way ... It was a failure of the Churches as much as anything else . Very sad .
