Matthew Barzal Takes High Stick Near Eye, Giroux Winces At Replay

Giroux catches Barzal very close to his eye with a high stick on the follow through from a shot. Game 5 of the second round round of 7 in the NHL 2020 playoffs between the Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Islanders.

I'm 34, and I'm sure we will see full face coverings in my lifetime. I don't like it either, but it's eventually going to happen. (no excuses for not taking your lid off for a fight though, so there is that I guess).

I had something similar happen a few years ago at a tourney in coquitlam, defenseman was taking a slapper and followed through high like what happened here. I got hit in the throat and got rushed to the ER, scariest thing that’s happened to me. Turned out to just be a really bad bruise to my trachea but doc said if it was much harder it would’ve been a different convo

This is why if I ever play in the nhl I’m wearing a full visor. Idc if I get chirped, I’m being safe. Besides if I’m good maybe others will follow

Looked blatant to me!, & how did Giroux get away with no penalty call off the hop!? All 4 zebras were looking straight at the infraction?! Bleeping bleeps!! If that was a Montreal player--good luck with that. 5 & a game, plus a call to the office; resulting in another suspension. Whadda joke = NHL officiating. 👎👎

If you thought that was blatant, then you're clearly just biased against the flyers. Giroux had the puck, shot it to the corner, and wasn't even looking at Barzal. The same thing happened to Voracek in the round robin against the captials. He got hit in the face as a result of a follow through and there was no penalty.

Dude... Are you actually serious? If you can't tell that that was a genuine accident then you really need to have your eyes checked. Accidents like this don't call for penalties. Things like this happen in hockey all the time. It's a dangerous sport. Those guys know what the risks are when they go out onto the ice. They know what could happen. It was just one of those things. Comes with the territory.

Please give me a response how is that a cry baby? Getting a full chip of a stick to the dam face almost to the eye and you call that being a cry baby? Please go get hit in the face with a stick and come back telling us how it felt and show us how it’s not bad getting hit like that
