Red flag laws, like the one in Colorado, is nothing more than gun confiscation because the legal standard to remove the gun is 'a preponderance of the evidence' but in order to have the weapon returned, the arguments have to meet 'beyond reasonable doubt' standard. I will be nearly impossible to prove a negative beyond reasonable doubt. This is a violation of Second Amendment rights. Imagine a teenager who got grounded for something, calling to implement red flag confiscation just to get even. It doesn't take much of an imagination to see that happening - in fact it did happen in Colorado. Those laws tend to be a PC term for confiscation.

@LeeZaslofsky

Most people obey most laws most of the time. "Criminals" stop at red lights. They put money in parking meters. They pay the rent. They pay for groceries. They don't attack people 99 days out of a 100, and probably even less than that. Most gun owners obey most gun laws most of the time. This includes people who may, from time to time, use guns for criminal purposes. The idea that there are people who never obey any laws is just crazy. Gun control laws are not meant to stop everyone from committing any crime. That is impossible. They are designed to reduce the number of guns, and reduce access to them, so they cannot be used as much. This would reduce the number of victims of gun crime or accidents, and thus save lives. What is so terrible about that? It's what most countries do, and they have a lot less gun crime than the US.

So according to Liberals Europeans are bad because of colonization even though many groups like the Irish and Polish never took part in it yet the Spanish did. Now somehow 200 years later Irish/Polish get blamed for slavery and colonization while Latin Americans who move to America don't get the same if any blame even though their ancestors from Spain did kill millions of natives and enslave millions. Just because their empire failed and now they're poor. So in 2024 Irish/Polish = bad Spanish decent= victims .

They meaning us. The reader. Or God in particular since he later lays judgement on Cain. The rock didnt give Cain more power. The power in Cain's motivations to kill Abel were there before a rock was even in his hands. He was jealous, and angry. God had earlier asked him why he was upset and depressed, and that if he did right, his heart would be accepted by God. His response immediately after is to suggest taking Abel out into a field with nobody around and to kill him. In fact, my translation does not even actually mention a rock. It just says " and im paraphrasing" that instead of listening to God, he suggests going out into the wilderness to Abel, and he attacks Abel and kills him. @@LeeZaslofsky

@@enochadamson7801 All this biblical exegesis in order to make the point that the implement used to kill someone is NEVER important, only the intention and mood of the person who uses it. In other words, the solution to crime is a general improvement in morality, which we pray for and preach about, realizing, however, that we live in a sinful world, and cannot do away with sin, only pray about it and preach against it. In other words, there's nothing we can do about sin, so let everybody buy a gun because there will always be "criminals" out there to defend against. And merely reducing the danger is not worthwhile, because there will still be sin in the world, no matter what we do. So let us pray, brethren, for the Return of the Lord, who will cleanse the world of sin, and make it unnecessary for people to buy guns. This is pure superstition, shaped to increase the profits of the gun industry.
@enochadamson7801
@enochadamson7801 3 ай бұрын
@@LeeZaslofsky Your viewpoint is kind of going around in circles. So I agree with everything up until you are saying that there will always be "criminals" to justify using a gun. In the context of Cain, Abel was not an enemy or a criminal. He was his brother. Jesus' followers carried swords. If I go camping in the woods, I bring a shotgun. Because there are bears, and mountain lions in the areas I go camping in. And there wont be civilization for miles. If someone breaks into my home, im armed. I can defend myself. But to act like everyone has guns so they can start justifying their use to make everyone an enemy sounds like you know nothing about firearm enthusiasts, and dont own a gun yourself for the very reasons you listed. You are worried what you will do with it. So for you, it sounds like your mental health is in check. I wouldnt recommend firearms for you. But since I dont go to work, or a grocery store or to the beach and carry a gun, and mainly use them for shooting ranges or camping or hunting, you have 0 authority to tell me what I have or shouldnt have. Next you are going to suggest I shouldnt have tools like a saw, an axe or a hammer in my shed because they can hurt people. Or my car because it can run someone over. If you dont want a gun, dont get one. Just dont tell others how to live their lives. Besides. The ones that harm others with guns purchase them illegally and scratch serial numbers off so they arent traceable. Im not going to pray for a world with no guns, either. Considering I like using them to shoot targets on weekends and its a hobby.
@LeeZaslofsky
@LeeZaslofsky 3 ай бұрын
@@enochadamson7801 You repeat the usual crap we always hear from gun enthusiasts, about lonely expeditions deep into the woods, an intruder breaking into your home, and on and on. You even throw in the myth that Jesus's followers had swords, forgetting what Jesus SAID ("Those who live by the sword shall die by it") and pretending that he was a forerunner of the gun nuts of today. Only five percent of Americans ever go hunting. But the other ninety five percent are supposed to defer to them and not make any gun regulations that might make their hobby less enjoyable. Your speculations as to my mental state are typical right wing hogwash, your way of demeaning me because I dare to disagree with you. And no, I am not a student of firearm owners, and I have no need to be in order to express an opinion on the gun plague that afflicts the US. Most Americans do not own guns. Gun owners are a minority in the US. Those who own more than one gun are a minority of that minority; and those who own five or more guns are 29 percent of gun owners, a minority within a minority within a minority. Yet gun policy in America is controlled by this minority, and the gun industry that supplies and profits off them. Then we get to the argument, much prized by the gun nuts, that only "criminals" are worth worrying about, not "law abiding gun owners". They tell us that "criminals" pay no attention to the law, so there is no point in passing gun controls. This is like saying there is no point in legislating against murder, because murderers won't pay any attention to such a law. And it's foolish to pass laws against burglary, because burglars won't obey them anyway. Rape? Pass all the laws you want, rapists will still rape. In any case, laws mean government, and we all know that government is bad. The fact is that many of the mass shooters we hear about are "law abiding gun owners" who suddenly become "criminals" when they use their legally obtained firearms to mow down a bunch of kids in a school, or shoppers ins supermarket, or concertgoers, or university students, or people gathered for worship, or just anyone that happens to be walking down the street when the recently "law abiding gun owner" passes by and shoots them dead. Many of the deaths and injuries in the home, where weapons are kept to deal with an "intruder" (by killing him? death penalty for trespassing?), occur because "law abiding gun owners" get so angry with their wives that they can see no alternative but to shoot them dead. "Law abiding" gun owners sometimes leave their guns around the house where kids can get them, and sometimes little kids find them and "play with them", killing someone. And I won't dwell on the tens of thousands of Americans who use guns to kill themselves, partly because ti's so easy to do it with a gun, whereas taking pills or jumping off a tall building are more complicated. Gun nuts tell us that the solution to all this is to train gun owners to be more responsible, and to ruthlessly hunt down and arrest or kill all criminals. The fact that the US has by far the largest number of people in jail of any country on earth, to the point where the number exceeds the total of the next ten countries COMBINED, seems to have failed to have any effect on the number of gun deaths in the US. I guess that just means the US has not been ruthless enough in dealing with its "criminals". I don't think it's necessary or fair to ban all guns.What is needed is sensible gun regulations, enforced seriously, with the object of reducing the number of guns in America (estimated at 440 million for an adult population of about 249 million, only 44 percent of whom live in homes where there are guns, and only 32 percent of whom own guns themselves). In order to do this, I believe it's necessary to repeal the Second Amendment, which has been perverted into a sales slogan for the gun industry. I agree with former Chief Justice Warren Burger, a Nixon appointee, on that. Once the Second Amendment has been repealed, it will be possible to pass sensible gun regulations such as exist in most countries similar to the US, and, over time, see a major reduction in gun deaths. The goal should be nationwide regulations, seriously enforced, aimed at reducing the number of guns in circulation and banning assault weapons completely. A plan whereby gun owners could turn in their guns and receive a payment has worked well in some places. I continue to believe that the passion for guns among some Americans is a remnant of Slavery, the Indian Wars, and Jim Crow, and is mainly a passion for white supremacy disguised (unconvincingly) as a love of "freedom" and a "need" for self defense in a nation with 18,000 police forces. (Freedom from what? Black rule. Self defense against what? Black "criminals" and rioters.)

Are we supposed to ask permission, "Hey before you become tyrannical, do you mind giving me a gun so I can stop you?" Go read the 2nd Amendment. Pay close attention to how it's worded. And the order of the wording. It's the difference between "Try Not To" and "Not TRY TO". The order of the wording changes the meaning.

They would not hesitate to call and make something up so that we would have to deal with the embarrassment, the therapists, cops, judges, paperwork, lawyers... But whats even worse, many of us have someone dangerous we have tried to get away from. And they would love to render us defenseless for a nice long weekend so they could come after us. Ex husbands,, wives, bf/gf... Their new husband, wife, bf/gf... Ex in laws.... Unhinged family members. You name it. Red Flag Laws are just too easy to abuse. And since bad guys don't really follow the law, it wouldn't lower a single statistic or save a single life. (In fact, I'd be willing to bet RFL would actually cause MORE deaths, injuries, and crimes - but not less.)

@LeeZaslofsky 3 ай бұрын
You have misinterpreted the Second Amendment. It calls for a "well regulated militia" to be established in each state, and calls upon white men to join, supplying their own weapons, as the federal government could not afford to provide it. Those militias were established, but were found t be of poor quality in the war of 1812, and unreliable in the Mexican War. Of course the Civil War was fought by standing army forces, not militias, commanded by officers appointed by the central governments of the two sides. The militias were not really useful, and in the early 20th century they were replaced by the National Guard, with weapons provided by the federal government, and subject to being federalized by the President and used as regular forces in war. The gun nuts want to pretend that none of this happened, and that WWI and WWII were actually fought by state militias of self armed white men, commanded by their state governors while Presidents Wilson and Roosevelt dealt with other matters. Of course, if this version of history were true, the Lincoln Memorial would have, by now, been redesigned and converted into the Adolf Hitler Denkmahl, with quotations from his speeches denouncing Jews, Communists, Socialists, Democracy, human rights and other evils inscribed on the walls where Lincoln's words had been. And this would suit all too many gun nuts just fine.

Are we allowed to look into the social agony that prompts people to seek relief in suicidal drug taking? Are we allowed to ask WHY other countries like Uruguay, Portugal and Canada has legalized some drugs and found that this REDUCES drug consumption? Are we allowed to ask why the US, with its blind alley drug repression, actually supports the prices of drugs by creating a shortage or a much desired product? Are we allowed to ask what is it in American society and culture that might explain the self destructive, suicidal lust for drugs that has destroyed so many American lives, while creating a class of enormously rich and powerful "kingpins" and heir employees that has accumulated enormous wealth that it "hides" in the Cayman Islands and other hidey holes? Are we allowed to ask whether the drug crisis is simply the capitalist system acting according to its normal rules, sucking the blood of the poor and the sick and the desperate in order to enrich a tiny elite of criminals? Are we allowed to ask whether the American people are really benefiting by the massive accumulation of wealth , "legal" and "illegal", in the hands of a tiny minority of ruthless sharks who gorge themselves while the children of the poor cry out for the food and help they desperately need? Do we need to ask why Elon Muck, Jeff Bozos and other clowns and gangsters are treated like divine beings while they ransack the country and impoverish so many of its people? Are we allowed to ask how it has come to the point where a convicted rapist, fraudster and tax cheat has become the darling and Leader of the very same people who suffer from the catastrophe of fentanyl and other curses of the American working class? Has unbridled, criminal, corrupt capitalism destroyed the American effort to have 'government of the People, by the People, and fr the People", and replaced it with "Jesus wants you to be rich" and"Trump alone can fix it"? Is there no alternative to this sleazy end to the great American Republic, all of whose whose people were described in the Emancipation Proclamation as "NOW, HENCEFORTH, AND FOREVER FREE"? Was Lincoln full of shit? Was FDR a shyster with no legs? Was MartinLluther King Jr a Commie N===r who got what was coming to him? Is Donald Trump the true face of America in the 21st century, a whining, self pitying crook and rapist, a pussy grabbing con man whose motto is "You don't like it? So sue me! I'll strangle you in legal BS and delay the case past the End Times, and get a "continuance" in Hell!" These questions never seem to get raised in the Land of Free Speech. The cringe starts when I hear the phrase "responsible' gun owner, 'lawful' gun owner, 'legal' gunowner". It means the rights of the gun owner are already infringed upon. Putting qualifier words in phrases defines the discussion. We need to understand the definitions of these words and what they mean. Listen to any politician speak and you'll hear qualifiers in every sentence so they can't be accused of lying.

Maybe if they if they spend more time teaching facts and giving the kids the tools to excel we be a lot better. Safe and responsible ownership of a firearm is not the cause of crime. You sound like you have a larger point to make: shut down the colleges and teach "facts" and "give the kids the tools to excel". BTW who cares what your Dad and Mom insisted? Why do you people always want to talk about what your parents told you? Are you aware that many kids don''t listen to what their parents tell them?
