True. But it didn't buy happiness or solve the kind of problems *money can't buy*. It didn't help him in sobriety. He had what lots of ppl think is "having it all" but he really had nothing, he spent his life painfully lonely. He said so in his book. Looks, talent, money & fame are superficial, he thought it would solve all his problems, initially. If only he'd understood when young that true happiness & contentment doesn't come from that😔. He was so enjoyable to watch or listen to, like this.

Despite all the heartbreaks we endure this time around with Matthew's passing, there's some joy to be had in knowing that towards the end of his life before his passing, it seemed as though he finally conquered the demons that he struggled for so long throughout his life and managed to pull things together. So he was fighting through it all and never completely gave up and got beaten, he in a way won.

@@jeremysiron9622 I agree. Even though my personal ideals don't line up with almost anyone in Hollywood. I'm talking about an aggressive misalignment of ideals. I can put that aside to recognize the important contribution he made to addiction as a matter of public awareness on the topic, and increased sympathy for it. That's before even mentioning the direct help he provided.

Matthew Perry carried Friends in those early seasons before David Schwimmer really got out of his shell and found his groove. Perry had it all and he was just playing every single episode. Incredible to watch him back then - Haven't seen such comedic in a sitcom acting performance apart from in Frasier. RIP to the legend, Matthew Perry
@mallurypollard7815
@mallurypollard7815 8 ай бұрын
It was more the show’s narrative that drove who was funny when. Seasons 1-3 were all about Ross and Rachel drama so Chandler/Joey stuff had more room to be laugh out loud funny. Watch season 4 again and once she’s not in a relationship, Jen Aniston/Rachel is really hilarious. She got to shine once she wasn’t the love interest anymore. Once Chandler/Monica got together it handicapped Perry’s talent big time and once the 3 divorces happened to Ross he was a walking punchline and couldn’t miss. Also, Kudrow is pretty solid throughout and it’s not a surprise she’s the only one that won an individual award for the show.
@MichaelHolmgaard
@MichaelHolmgaard 8 ай бұрын
@@mallurypollard7815 It was really a let down for the show's comedy when Chandler got with Monica. It happens a lot in these types of shows - Niles lost a lot of his funny bones in Frasier after he was coupled with Daphne. The writing has a lot to do with that and the show held up in the end primarily because David Schwimmer was set free. I think the show runners knew that David was needed at that point because it was difficult for Matthew to deliver those jokes in a couple setting.

It's really amazing how ahead of its time the show was, can't believe it started in 1994. Recently watched the first season and it mostly feels like a modern sitcom even though it's 30 years old and the jokes are just as funny now. Also, because it was shot on 35mm, the HD scans look really high quality, so it looks modern too. In 1994 this was groundbreaking TV. Matthew definitely had his struggles but was a very sweet and kind man, gone too soon, it's devastating for Friends fans.

Omg what a throw back. I was 14 years old when this above interview came out. I had no idea that he was only 11 years older than me at that time. So he was 25 years old in this clip. He was so mature and well versed and talented for his young age.

He didn’t want to be remembered just for Chandler, but he was Chandler in real life…
