Right? Not only does he do an incredible job concealing his true accent, so much of his sprightly, elfin personality is concealed too. I know that is part of what acting is about, but it still surprises me how different he is from Philip in the way he talks.

I have just binge watched all of The Americans and then decided to find out more about the actors and boy - I never knew Mischa was from Cardiff. This is of great interest to me as I am from a village near Cardiff and hearing Matthew here is making my Welsh accent more pronounced. For sure, Matthew has the wicked Welsh sense of humor! He and Keri are so adorable together.

I was just about to post this. I have been a fan of his since Brothers and Sisters and for some strange reason, neeeeever ONCE had the inkling to watch an interview from him (I think I made up my mind of what I thought his personality would be in my head, typical American type LOL!) and then I've been watching him in the Americans, just started watching it a few months back (still on S2) So today I get this wild idea to check out his IMDB...Wales it says! And now this interview! I almost DONT believe it, because he had me SOLD he was from the US!

What would happen if Matthew Rhys, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and Jonathan Rhys Davies met. Would the universe explode? I love this show. Best on TV in my opinion. I was shocked but not surprised that Matthew Rhys is not American, but Welsh. That shows how good his accent is. I can usually tell hone an actor playing American is not. Seems like there are no male American leads in American male roles.

Привет из России. с удовольствием смотрю это шоу. от всех голливудских фильмов о КГБ, в этой серии, хотя меньше всех клише и штампов. Почти все актеры впечатлил своей игрой. кроме генерала Жукова, это самые смешные клише, и это абсолютно ненадежны. даже форма полковника погоны отмененных (как это вообще возможно пропустить терпят неудачу?!) очень удивлен Махендра Аннет. когда она говорит по-русски, я сначала даже подумал, что она из России или из республик СССР. Аннет Браво! ))

Annet Mahendru was born in Kabul when it was part of the USSR. Her mother is Russian and Annet spent part of her childhood in Saint Petersburg. I believe she speaks seven languages. I know that Russian, English, German, and Persian are some of them. She originally trained to be a diplomat!

As an American, it kinda embarrasses me how easy it seems for other actors to do an American accent so convincingly. Perhaps it's not easy, they just all make it seem so easy because of their talent but it seems as if very few American actors do good overseas accents in comparison.

Denise Noles Yes. It ruins the character. TV shows are immersive. You get used to how a character sounds and all their nuances. When I see the actor I've watched for 4 season speaking with such a corny accent it ruins my concept of the character.
