This is such an ear catchy song by Matthew Wilder & so hard to keep still to! Whenever I hear this on BBC Radio 2 I just have to turn up the volume on the radio wherever I am & bop along to it. How good were the 1980's? I say they were very good when it comes to popular music & songs like this. NO mobile phones, social media, internet or silly selfies being taken. Looking back we coped fine without all of that I thought. A great decade the 1980's were in every way.

The 1980’s were an amazing decade, the fashion clothes, shoes, hairstyles, movies, cars, even the food tasted better; in 1983 when this song “Break My Stride” by Mathew Wilder was brand new and popular on the radio, I was exactly 13 years old and I had my first girlfriend (Shenny), and a SONY Walkman Cassette Player, now I’m 54 years older, happily married to (Kim), but I don’t feel or look old at all, in comparison to my parents who in their 50’s looked quite ancient, my wife also looks younger and beautiful, she’s 52, but looks 40, honestly, we got lucky ageing gracefully, it feels as if we’ve listened to this song only couple of years ago. We must get far too busy enjoying life to be limited by acting our age.

@@FuturesPast1 Many cultures and wise teachers explain that the soul never dies, it simply changes dress to continue on its journey to final self-realization. Both you and I will also leave these bodies, so better not become too attached to anything in this temporary world. Family life is a happiness meant to ease the pain of material existence but the real purpose of life is to discover God for yourself, don't listen to the haters and the so-called expert atheists, just follow your heart. I recommend you read The Bhagavad-gita As it Is. I wish you all peace and happiness.

I turned 20 in 1980 and this tune reminds me of a beautiful, intelligent young lady (classic Liberal Arts major with the big pair of [ulp] glasses) who unfortunately just couldn't stop being a Libra long enough to commit to a long-term relationship (we used to call it marriage).1983-84 was a tough sled for me; it took another 5 long, lonely years before I met the beautiful Aquarius I married some time later. We had 27 years, 5 months and 8 days together; I hope to see her again.

Crazy Fact: After No Doubt’s debut album tanked, Eric Stefani left the band to focus on his full-time job as an animator on The Simpsons. Gwen Stefani and Tony Kanal broke up. No Doubt could’ve easily ended then, but Interscope paired the band up with producer Matthew Wilder, who helped them find a brighter and cleaner sound. (Wilder’s highest-charting single, 1983’s “Break My Stride,” peaked at #5. It’s a 4.) By the time No Doubt released the Wilder-produced Tragic Kingdom in 1995, only a few traces of the old wacky ska band remained. The band had become a big, shimmery pop machine, and their timing was perfect.
